Description of Work
- Supervising subordinate staff.
- Conducting shift line up, making shift assignments and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
- Completing reviews and maintaining employee time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations and administrative forms,
- Ensuring that all assigned equipment is operational, providing daily inspection of offenders living areas, medical, kitchen areas and the facility to identify possible safety hazards and ensuring the operation is running smoothly.
- Identifying training needs and coordinating delivery of training to subordinate staff
- Conducting interviews and investigations, searches of staff, visitors and offenders for contraband and responding to emergency situations as needed.
- Serving as Officer-In-Charge of the Facility.
This is a full-time position working rotating shifts with State Benefits.
Effective January 1, 2025, the new salary range will be $43,738 - $76,542.

About Pender Correctional Institution:
Pender Correctional Institution is located in Burgaw, North Carolina and houses up to 768 male offenders in a medium custody facility.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:
- Supervisory skills in a prison facility
- Knowledge of facility operations
- Knowledge of Prisons' policy and procedures
- Report writing skills
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school or General Education Development (GED) diploma and two years six months of experience as a Correctional Lieutenant
Or
Two years of experience as a Correctional Lieutenant II
Or
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
