This posting is for an Employee Relations (ER) Consultant that is a member of the Human Resources (HR) Team. The Employee Relations Consultant is responsible for the day-to day administration of the Employee Relations program and maintaining compliance with DHHS guidelines relative to all areas of ER, performance management, ADA
accommodation requests, and unemployment issues. This position requires a high level of professionalism and the ability to handle difficult situations.


Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Administer and communicate the grievance and disciplinary policies and procedures while applying relevant state and federal laws, regulations, and department directives for employees.
  • Work collaboratively with management in conducting investigations relating to employee complaints and employee grievances.
  • Coordinate training for managers on topics such as documentation needs, EEO and performance management.
  • Conduct investigations and participate in conferences; interview case participants, provide analysis of information gathered, document problems/behaviors, determine appropriate courses of action, and advise managers and employees of options and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with DHHS ER Section regarding potential dismissals, demotions, suspensions or other sensitive ER issues.
  • Serve as the divisional liaison with the NC Unemployment Insurance Program's third party administrator.
  • Coordinate the Employee Assistant Program (EAP)
  • Monitor, consult, and train employees, supervisors and managers on the State's performance management program.
  • Provide consultation and guidance for the division’s ADA accommodation process.

  • Experience applying comprehensive principles and practices of Employee Relations including the application of Federal and State laws
  • Documented experience conducting investigations in human resources or a related setting
  • Proven experience monitoring, consulting, and training employees, supervisors and managers on performance management.

Bachelor's degree, typically in Human Resources or related field from an appropriately accredited institution
OR
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and 3 years of progressive experience in Human Resources
OR
Equivalent combination or education and experience
