The Mission of the Department of Public Instruction: The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is charged with implementing the state's public school laws for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade public schools at the direction of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and State Board of Education.The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is seeking applicants for an IT Project Manager I for our Project Management Office within Division of Digital Learning and Technology Services.The Project Management Office is responsible for managing IT modernization efforts and driving systemic change using new technologies and innovative processes. The division manages and supports new IT initiatives and works in coordination with DPI business units while adhering to and supporting standards and procedures developed by the agency and the Department of Information Technology (DlT). The facilitation extends to DPI internal customers as well as Public School Units (PSUs) that use these services.This position is responsible for delivering these projects by following Agency established processes. The Project Manager works closely with business owners and ensures that goals and expectations are met. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Qualified candidates must document on the application that they possess all of the following: Demonstrated experience managing, organizing, and/or leading IT projects.Demonstrated experience gathering business and/or technical requirementsDemonstrated experience handling projects involving IT procurement.Demonstrated experience managing projects handling data. Demonstrated experience advising various stakeholders regarding issues and/or risks, process re-engineering, and/or technology issues.MANAGEMENT PREFERENCES: Experience in IT project management or technical project management related work is preferred.Experience working in K-12 environments or deep knowledge of K-12 schools is preferred.Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.Knowledge of Project Management process, procedures, documentation, checklists, and reporting criteria as well as project management related IT standards and software is essential. Conflict resolution, negotiation, and mediation skills; and excellent written and oral communication skills preferred.
