Designs, revises, and prints specialized signs as directed by State Sign Shop Manager. Manages the inventory and equipment associated with this process. Completes sign design utilizing software programs and MUTCD regulations. Confirms that work orders are correct in size, line spacing, layout, borders and radii. Accurately records material used in sign production. Completes equipment maintenance and upkeep on appropriate schedules.
Completes tasks as required to maintain production per the needs of the State Sign Shop and shipping deadlines, maintaining quality in production with minimal waste. Maintains efficient and effective workmanship to accomplish the necessary production of the State Sign Shop, based on requisitions & requests from SCDOT customers. Ensures a 99% standard of quality in all production.
Completes hand layouts for signs based on MUTCD regulations. Weeds and masks, cuts small designs, numbers and letters, and/or layout materials for sign manufacturing. Ensures spacing is correct per MUTCD regulations.
Completes inventory as directed by the State Sign Shop Manager. Verifies quantities of sign shop production materials including but not limited to sheeting, aluminum blanks, and ACM materials. Documents and reports these quantities per SCDOT policies.
Rolls and trims sign sheeting onto aluminum blanks. Maintains equipment associated with this process. Applies sheeting to proper substrate, checking quality in design and verbiage of signs and ensuring quality workmanship of completed signs. This includes but is not limited to centered text and designs, smooth finish without bubbles, and safe operations during production. Completes equipment maintenance and upkeep on appropriate schedules.
Assists in the organization and packaging of recycled signs for refurbishing. Safely organizes/re-organizes recycled signs submitted by counties and/or sign shop waste to appropriate pallets for transportation to refurbishing site location(s). Safely unloads refurbished signs into State Sign Shop inventory areas.
Ensures good housekeeping and preventive maintenance of work areas, common areas, and sign production equipment. Keeps work area clean, and organized. Completes preventive maintenance to equipment as needed. Reports damage or repair needs to the State Sign Shop Manager. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Six (6) months of trades experience that is directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing,
pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. May require occasional exposure to noise. May require working outside of normal work schedules and weekends.
