Operates tandem dump trucks with trailers for hauling material and transporting equipment for maintenance and construction operations. Operates medium-sized equipment such as belt loaders, large roller > 4 tons, skid steer loader, tractor with large mower > 10' wide, and trailer-mounted injection patcher in conjunction with highway and bridge maintenance operations. Operates and maintains powered tools in various phases of roadway maintenance related to assigned tasks such as tree and vegetation removal, cleaning pipes and ditches, concrete sidewalk and gutter repair and maintenance, limb trimming, weed eating, facility maintenance, litter and dead animal removal, etc. Assists with producing daily records of work performed and materials used, records such as Highway Maintenance Management System and the maintenance requests and complaints forms. Conducts safety inspection on all assigned vehicles and equipment. Monitors the preventive maintenance program of equipment to ensure a routine maintenance schedule is followed and to monitor equipment use and wear to prolong equipment life. Operates heavier equipment such as motor graders, backhoes, lowboy truck tractor, slope mowers, and tractor with ditcher installing sideline and crossline pipe and bridge repairs. Operates both portable tank-mounted salt brine anti-icing equipment and standard dump truck with snowplow attachment and sand spreader to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges. Assists in emergency or inclement weather operations; may include being available for extended hours or 12-hour shifts. Performs other related duties as assigned.Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather.None.
