Principle Duties
The Utah State Hospital is an in-patient psychiatric facility, responsible for the total care of our patients while they stay with us. Psych techs are part of the nursing department and assist with maintaining a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment for our patients.
Minimum Requirements
At minimum, the psych tech must be able to:
- pass a background check to work with vulnerable children and adults.
- work weekends and holidays (shift differentials may apply).
- attend each day of new employee orientation 8 AM - 5 PM (9 days).
Preferred Qualification
The preferred candidate for this position is:
- able to provide the highest quality care to our patients.
- able to work with patients in a manner of sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.
- able to observe the environment, monitor changes in safety, inappropriate activity, or potentially harmful behavioral issues.
- able to respond appropriately in situations where safety to self, patients, and others may be compromised.
Responsibilities
- Direct patient care as assigned by the RN.
- Observe, report, and document behavior conditions.
- Safety checks and safety watches.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living.
- Mentor patients in a compassionate and understanding way.
- Ability to follow procedures and policies.
- Apply mental health concepts, cultivating interpersonal and therapeutic relationships.
- The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
- The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
- The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
- The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
