Principle Duties
Psychiatric Technicians are part of the nursing department and assist with maintaining a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment. This position allows you to make a positive impact in the lives of others in a direct patient care role. This is a great entry level position, giving hands on patient care experience, even while pursuing careers in nursing, psychology, social work, and other avenues of mental health. Psych Techs provide care for individuals with mental illness and must be willing and able to act as an integral part of the patient's treatment team, working with nurses, psychiatrists, and social workers to ensure the patient is receiving top rate care. It is the responsibility of the Psych Tech to follow patient treatment plans and prescribed behavioral programs while acting as a mentor and caregiver for our patients.

The ideal candidate for this position is a helpful, positive, capable, and empathetic individual who is eager to provide the highest quality direct care services to patients at the Utah State Hospital.
Minimum Requirements
At minimum, this person must be able to:
- Assist people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism
- Observe the environment, paying attention to changes in safety, inappropriate activity, or potential behavioral issues, then respond appropriately
- MUST be available to work weekends and holidays. (shift differentials may apply)
- MUST be available to attend new employee orientation 8 AM - 5 PM (9 days)

We currently offer full time, Time Limited acuity pool positions. Medical Insurance benefits are available and start day one for our full-time employees. Upon completion of training, new Psych Techs are invited to transition into a full time benefited (Schedule B) position on a designated unit, subject to the needs of the hospital. - Depending on area of assignment, a valid driver's license may be required.
