The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Fiscal Analyst 1 (FA1). This is a permanent position located at the Monroe Correctional Complex in Monroe, Washington.

The Monroe Correctional Complex (MCC) is comprised of five units: Washington State Reformatory Unit (WSRU), Twin River Unity (TRU), Minimum Security Unit (MSU), Sky River Treatment Center (SRTC), and the Intensive Management Unit (IMU). In all, MCC houses approximately 1,500 incarcerated individuals and employs approximately 1,000 staff.

Duties

Duties may include but are not limited to:

Trust Accounting
  • Prepare and process accounting entries for local accounts.
  • Accurately and efficiently process deposit, withdrawal, transfer activity for locally held accounts.
  • Review trust accounts to ensure compliance with financial policies and regulations.
  • Month-end activity: prepare monthly local fund financial reports, prepare and produce payment for local fun liabilities, prepare required State and Federal reports.

General Accounting
  • Manage and balance Local Fund Donation account
  • Prepare, reconcile and analyze general ledger activity.
  • Assist LBM with minor tasks related to reconciliation of the general ledger accounts.
  • Assists with fiscal year-end closing activities.

Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year of relevant professional experience. Relevant experience is defined as Fiscal Technician 2 or above level work.
    • Provided that a candidate possesses a degree focused on accounting or business management/administration: an AA degree can be equivalent to 1 year required work experience, and BA degree or above can be equivalent to 2 years of required work experience. Equivalencies to be reviewed by Comptroller/designee, degrees outside of focused areas will NOT count towards experience requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A business focused Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the US Department of Education and the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or foreign equivalent, with minimum 20 accounting credits to include Accounting 201, 202, 203 and Governmental Accounting.


Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment

  • Accounting 201 and Accounting 202 from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the US Department of Education and the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or foreign equivalent, or the ability to obtain the listed credits/courses within six (6) months from the date of hire.

Telework Details
This position may be eligible to telework after initial in-office training is complete. Work may be performed from your home or another offsite location within the state of Washington using a reliable internet or cellular hotspot service. Employees are expected to perform assigned duties in a safe manner, to take proper care all state-issued equipment, and maintain confidentiality of all information in possession while working offsite. Employees will be required to commute to a Department of Corrections facility as business requires.
