With a focus on fieldwork, key responsibilities include locating property lines, borders and boundaries, supervising the field survey party, analyzing survey data, and monumenting corners.What to Expect-Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Land Surveyor will, Follow written and oral survey project instructions, take accurate field measurements, notes, sketches, and operate survey equipment carefully and effectively: Establish survey control networks utilizing both conventional and Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment. Locate all necessary survey monuments and/or topographic features related to specific projects. Perform professional level analysis of land corner and property boundary evidence. Ensure field survey measurements meet or exceed the minimum standards for measurement accuracy. Ensure survey measuring instruments are maintained in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications. Assist the Land Surveyor 3 and Chief Surveyor with preparing and finishing office survey work: Process and analyze field survey data. Prepare official record of survey maps. Prepare topographic maps. Miscellaneous survey related tasks: Perform equipment maintenance and upkeep, ensuring equipment is clean and in working condition and taking equipment to the dealer for updates and repair as needed. Working Conditions: Work Setting, including hazards: Field work requires working in all weather conditions, rough terrain, along riverbanks, and on slippery slopes. While trekking up and down steep terrain, you will carry up to 80 pounds (backpacks, tripods, and hand tools) with the potential to encounter stinging plants, wildlife, and insects. Office setting you may experience long periods of looking into a computer monitor with exposure to fluorescent light. Schedule: Duties are typically performed in the field, Monday – Thursday, 10 hours per day. Additional working hours are anticipated during the construction season May - August. Some work weeks could consist of up to four (4) consecutive nights out of town. Travel Requirements: 80% of the time either traveling/in the field. Frequent travel to work sites requires consecutive overnight stays. Qualifications: Required Qualifications: Four (4) years of experience performing *land survey work, including two (2) years as a skilled land survey technician, Engineering Aide 3, or equivalent higher-level position such as instrument technician, skilled drafter/computer or survey records researcher/analyst. OR Certification as a registered Land-Surveyor-In-Training. Please Note: Four (4) years of college work with major emphasis in engineering, forestry, or other curriculum which contained courses in land surveying may be substituted for two (2) years of general land survey experience.*Land Survey work involves the process of measuring and mapping land to determine boundaries, topography, and features of a specific area. Certifications/Licenses: Valid Driver’s License Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the required qualifications, our ideal applicant will possess some or all the following: Experience with: Operating conventional and GPS survey equipment. GLO retracement, original corner recovery, construction staking and topographic surveys.Leading a survey field crew. Guiding and direct subordinates to accomplish tasks.The rectangular system of surveys, geometry and trigonometry, the methods used to describe land in deeds, rights of way and easements, the common sources of existing survey corner information and problems relating to the location of boundaries in relationship to water.Reading surveys, GLO notes, legal descriptions, engineering plans, aerial and USGS Quad maps. Ability to write neat and accurate field notes and sketches.Common computer software, such as Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Teams.Certification: Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) certification.Competencies: Supervisory skills for a lead worker position.Fundamental understanding of drafting standards, familiarization and use of AutoCAD.Your application should include the following: A completed online application showcasing how your qualifications align with the job requirements.An up-to-date resume.
