Position Summary
This position serves as the Police Officer and Property Manager for the Kickapoo Valley Reserve. Carry out law enforcement activities to ensure public safety on the property, including assisting in developing and updating supporting program policy, scheduling, maintaining law enforcement vehicles and equipment, conducting scheduled patrols, enforcing state laws, KVR policy and administrative rules on the property, serving as a positive public face of the KVR and state of Wisconsin, and serving as a liaison to surrounding police agencies. Carry out the KRMB Land Management and Cultural Resource plans. Serve as liaison to the KVR Land Management Committee. Ensure that land/habitat management actions are in compliance with relevant forest/land management plans. For more information, please view the complete position description.
Salary Information
The starting rate for this unclassified KRMB Property Manager NTE 81-04 position (schedule/range 01-00) position will be $28.00 per hour - $32.00 per hour depending upon candidate qualifications.
Job Details
Candidates must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with or without accommodation. This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends to meet operational needs. This position also requires a valid driver’s license and to meet the State’s Fleet Standards.
Due to the nature of the position, DOA will conduct background checks on applicants prior to selection. DOA does not sponsor work visas. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States, and to complete the required employment eligibility form.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will currently be certified as a law enforcement officer by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board (LESB) or eligible for certification at the time of appointment.
In addition, a minimally qualified candidate will have experience with each of the following:
- Law enforcement practices, applying and interpreting State of Wisconsin and Federal statutes.
- Operating tractors, chainsaws, ATVs, UTVs, and mowing equipment.
- Establishing and maintaining working relationships with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders including staff, public, volunteers, parents, youth, teachers, board members, agency representatives, and other law enforcement agencies, etc.
In addition to the above, well-qualified candidates will have experience with one or more of the following:
- Land and/or natural resource management, planning, and leadership (e.g. preserving and protecting natural and cultural resources, enhancing low-impact recreation activities, providing public education, etc.).
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in a natural resource related field or public administration.
