Organization Overview:

The State Preservation Board (SPB) was established for the purpose of preserving, maintaining, and restoring theState Capitol and the 1857 General Land Office, which houses the Capitol Visitors Center. Since that time, Agency operations have expanded to include care of the Governor's Mansion, operating the Bullock Texas State History Museum, Texas State Cemetery, Capitol Mall and three Capitol Complex legislative office buildings. We provide educational programs centered on Texas history, government and culture. These services benefit the citizens of Texas and its visitors. Position Summary:

The Inventory Lead performs moderately complex inventory and retail sales work. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The Inventory Lead reports to the Store Manager and is responsible for implementing efficient strategies for the management and control of inventory. Assists the Manager and other agency personnel in training Sales Clerks and other division staff on the basic principles of inventory control. Works within tight and competing deadlines and in high-volume seasonal environments. All store staff should have a friendly, welcoming and engaging personality. Duties include sales and customer service as well as receiving and inventory management. Demonstrates a high level resourcefulness working independently and collaboratively as required. Work hours are based on retail hours of operation and events and may include weekends, evenings and holidays, including on short notice.

Essential Job Duties:

· Review deposits that are problematic and reports findings to the Manager.

· Create and receive transfers using Springboard POS.

· Assist the Manager with counting coins, preparing the deposit, and documenting profits earned from the Penny Press Machine on a monthly basis.

· Provide superior and reliable customer service as assigned in Retail Division Gift Shops, including timely and friendly greeting of customers, successfully promoting and selling specialized merchandise to customers and providing routine sales floor and other customer assistance.

· Efficiently operate a Point-of-Sale system cash register, accurately make and count change; complete credit card transactions; wrap and bag purchased items. Verify cash and credit transactions as instructed. Effectively minimize customer delays in line.

· Maintain merchandise by cleaning, organizing and stocking shelves, displaying goods and continuously working effectively as part of a team to keep the store neat and orderly. Safely assist in floor moves and replenishing merchandise and perform all other related duties as assigned by the Manager.

· Perform light housekeeping in store, including dusting and litter removal.

· Effectively engage retail visitors, including regularly making eye contact and verbally greeting, smiling, and welcoming all visitors and shoppers.

· Provide assistance to customers in selection of goods or substitute merchandise. Demonstrate knowledge of all retail products available in stores.

· Assist in monthly and annual inventory.

· Oversee the organization of the stockroom and ensure it is maintained to facilitate the staff's awareness of what is currently in stock and what needs to be ordered.

· Report damaged shipments directly to the Manager to ensure quick communication with the vendor or shipping company.

· Report any negative stock balances to the Manager and investigate the causes if necessary. Bring any ordering needs and out-of-date, unresolved PO's to the attention of the Manager.

· Assist Manager process MOS and Markdowns and ensure they are being done correctly.

· Monitor the Markdown Log to ensure there is not a recurring problem that needs to be corrected in the POS system.

· Be a resource for the staff in regard to current inventory and order status, pertinent product knowledge and information that will help boost sales.

· Assist the Manager with orders and help monitor sales trends that would affect orders.

· Regular attendance is an essential job duty for all State Preservation Board positions.

· Perform all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Knowledge of monthly and annual inventory processes.

· Skill to apply principles, practices and retail industry standards for providing personalized customer experiences.

· Effective interpersonal and verbal communication skills, including proactively interacting with retail visitors, other agency personnel and the public.

· Ability to work collaboratively with other agency divisions and personnel to achieve common goals.

· Ability to develop and maintain effective and non-divisive working relationships among team members and other agency personnel.

· Ability to follow routine and repetitive administrative procedures related to visitor sales and transactions.

· Ability to calculate basic and correct application of mathematical principles and practices.

· Ability to speak clearly and engages in active listening.

· Ability to effectively engage customer and promote retail merchandise. Demonstrates persuasive and ethical sales and marketing techniques, including product demonstration.

· Ability to maintain extended periods of physical activity that include standing, walking, lifting, bending, and stretching.

· Ability to maintain sustained trunk strength as required to use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide body support over time without fatiguing.

· Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. to assist with stockroom maintenance.

· Ability to remain abreast and complies with all applicable safety rules, regulations, standards and emergency procedures. Plans work with safety and security front of mind. While working continuously assesses safety conditions to ensure individual and workplace safety and safety of visitors and staff. Promotes visitor safety and building security.

· Ability to assist with building evacuation if necessary, including coordinating and communicating with other departments, staff, and building occupants.

· Ability to work a flexible schedule when needed including some evenings, weekends and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications:

· High School graduate or equivalent.

· Two years’ experience working in a retail store completing sales transactions and providing customer services.

· Experience operating a personal computer and POS system.

· Experience with replenishing, organizing, storing and receiving merchandise.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience in the management and control of inventory.
