This position is responsible for providing leadership and oversight for the office of financial aid and staff; achieving or maintaining the office’s service orientation (from frontline to back office) and high level of student satisfaction; working closely with Admissions to help meet admission and enrollment goals; assisting assistant/associate directors and counselors (student-facing staff) with the more complex financial aid issues; packaging/awarding, loan origination, etc.; strengthening relationships between financial aid and other campus offices; working with the Bursar to ensure federal program accounts are reconciled monthly; meeting other critical deadlines such as SAP monitoring or appeals and the timely Return of Title IV Funds (R2T4); responding to reporting requests for financial aid data; and assisting with preparing the FISAP.The Director will be responsible for the administration of an established financial aid program (federal, state, and institutional funds) that adheres to the regulations with integrity along with upholding the mission and vision of Saint Augustine’s UniversityThis includes monitoring budgets, providing financial aid related advisement, and establishing policies and procedures in compliance with current federal, state, and institutional guidelines The Director of Financial Aid coordinates, plans, and oversees the application and award processes of financial aid for undergraduate students; coordinates veterans’ benefits; and supervises one full-time Financial Aid Counselor.RESPONSIBLITIES:Directs all financial aid functions with the purpose of enrolling and maintaining a diverse student body and institutional eligibility for continued participation in Federal and State aid programsMaintains the Department of Education Program Participation Agreement in updating staff members, submitting additional programs, and any substantive changes to the institution organizationEnsures the institution maintains the compliance standards set forth by the Department of Education and the State of North CarolinaCreates and maintains a customer service-based focus for the Office of Financial Aid and coordinates efforts with the Controller, Registrar, Admissions, and other offices on campusDirects the administration of financial aid; ensures applicants receive assistance in the application process for loans, grants, and scholarshipsMakes awards to current and incoming students while adhering to Title IV regulations, state and federal guidelines, private non-profit agencies, institutional packaging policy, and budget parametersOversees the administration of the private, state, and/or federal loan programs; coordinates the awarding of need-based scholarships/grants and the renewal of merit-based awardsCollaborates with CFO to administer foundation scholarship fundsProvides estimates of a pre-award amount for Federal Work-Study and Work College fundsManages the veteran benefits program to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations using VA ONCE to certify college enrollmentDirects the completion of reports to request funding, document expendituresReports include but are not limited to FISAP, IPEDS, CFNC for NC funds, Pell, direct lending, and may include contributing to or preparing marketing reports such as Peterson, FISKE, and US NewsSupervises, trains, and evaluates department staffWorks with staff to assign responsibilities, determine department priorities and procedures, and ensures cross-training occursPlans and directs the presentation and enforcement of policies and forms (i.e Return of Title IV, Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards, Verification forms, etc.)Participates in off-campus training when available and as neededAttends the department of Education’s annual FAS Conference (fall), any NC state meetings (usually mandatory)Attends training and professional development meetings as needed to stay abreast of regulations and changesMaintains contact with outside agencies to finalize aid for participating studentsRepresents Saint Augustine’s University during audits: Federal Program Review, North Carolina State Approving Agency, North Carolina Higher Education Assistance Authority, Department of Veteran Affairs, and the annual external audit prepared for the United States Department of Education and the State of North CarolinaWorks with the CFO to review appeal cases, special circumstances, and college-wide financial aid policyParticipates in several Open House opportunities, FAFSA Day, and other institution events which promote student successConducts Financial Aid Workshops at various high schools, college fairs, and on-campusServe as the institution representative for Financial Aid to both internal and external constituenciesResponsible for the Financial Aid Policies and Procedures manual, which includes all aspects of Financial Aid and an annual review and modification as requiredSaint Augustine’s University (SAU), drawing on its rich legacy as an access institution, is a student-focused, comprehensive educational institution that produces outstanding graduates prepared for personal and professional success. SAU was established in 1867 in Raleigh, NC by the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina. A four-year liberal arts university with an average enrollment of approximately 1,000, SAU sits on 105 lush acres just north of Downtown Raleigh, NC.
