What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Assistant - Residence Life Summer Assistant position at Stephen F. Austin University?
This is a live-in, hourly student position responsible for working with and supporting residents living on campus, camps, and conferences hosted by SFA during the summer. Responsible for preparing and ensuring access to rooms for residents and camps, maintaining the front desk operations for assigned shifts within housing facilities, and holding duty phone to support residents and those visiting for camps and conferences. Responsible for providing operational services to residents and campers, reporting concerns to residence hall and operations staff, and providing customer service to residents and camps while acting as a representative of SFA and the Residence Life Department. Works under close supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Job Duties
- Understands, supports, follows, enforces, and educates students and staff about university objectives, policies, and regulations and Residence Hall Community Guidelines.
- Maintains ongoing communication with departmental staff, residents, camp leaders, and campers.
- Displays a positive, professional attitude and support towards students, staff, and the department.
- Inventories and prepares rooms for residents, summer camps, and conferences.
- Ensures residents and camps have the appropriate keys and access to the correct buildings.
- Holds duty phone during assigned shifts to maintain a safe campus environment for camp and conference participants, and summer residents.
- Works the residence hall front desk during assigned shifts.
- Actively and appropriately addresses and informs hall staff of all student conduct concerns.
- Makes self-available and accessible to residents and campers when at desk.
- Acts as a referral agent for residents, camps, and staff to different campus and community resources.
- Keeps residents, camp leaders, and campers informed of activities.
- Attends and participates in all staff training sessions including weekly staff meetings, extended training sessions, and others as assigned.
- Completes administrative duties associated with desk and duty operations.
- Ensures building security and safety.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University. Must be an active student in good academic standing (cumulative GPA of 2.3 or higher).

Special Conditions for Eligibility
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
