Certified Peer Support Specialist

We are looking for a Peer Support Specialist to join our team and provide support for our clients as they look to overcome substance abuse and mental health disorders.

The Peer Support Specialist is primarily responsible for helping people achieve their personal goals while enhancing the development of their natural supports, coping, and self-management skills. This position utilizes personal experience with mental health or substance abuse issues to assist others in achieving desired outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Emphasize personal safety, self-worth, confidence, growth, connection to the community, boundary setting, planning, self-advocacy, personal fulfillment, development of social supports, and effective communication skills.
• Assist individuals in making informed choices concerning their care, services, and other life decisions affecting their illness.
• Engage in various skill-building activities, such as learning how to maintain stable housing, pay bills, clean, organize belongings, build social skills, locate improved housing situations, and teach the individual to identify and prepare healthy foods according to the cultural and personal preferences of the individual served and his/her medical needs.
• Provide and/or arrange transportation for people receiving support as required.

Qualifications

· High school diploma or a GED

· Current driver’s license

· Current certification from the North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist Program is a must.

· Past or present consumer of mental health or substance abuse services with a history of managing one's illness. Awareness of the importance of recovery in living with a mental illness or addiction problem.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 per hour

Schedule:

• Day shift
• Monday to Friday
