What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director, HSEQ position at Sterling Specialty Chemicals?
Key Responsibilities:
- Health & Safety Leadership: Develop and implement best-in-class safety programs to ensure a zero-incident workplace, embedding safety as a core value throughout the organization.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure full compliance with OSHA, EPA, DHS, FDA (if applicable), and other federal, state, and local regulations governing chemical manufacturing and distribution.
- Security Oversight: Lead security initiatives, including site security, product stewardship, and supply chain security, in compliance with CFATS and other industry regulations.
- Quality Assurance: Oversee quality control and assurance programs, ensuring product consistency, customer satisfaction, and adherence to ISO 9001 or other relevant certifications.
- Environmental Responsibility: Drive sustainability and environmental compliance programs, ensuring adherence to all environmental regulations and company sustainability goals.
- Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks related to HSSQ, including process safety management (PSM), hazardous materials handling, and emergency response planning.
- Training & Development: Lead employee training initiatives to enhance awareness and compliance with safety, security, and quality procedures.
- Incident Management: Establish incident reporting, investigation, and corrective action processes to drive continuous improvement.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with operations, R&D, supply chain, and regulatory teams to integrate HSSQ into business strategy and decision-making.
- Leadership & Culture: Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement in health, safety, security, and quality.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- 10 years of experience in an HSSQ leadership role within the chemical or manufacturing industry.
- Deep knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DHS, PSM, CFATS, and ISO 9001/14001 regulations and best practices.
- Proven track record of improving safety performance and regulatory compliance in a high-risk environment.
- Strong leadership, communication, and change management skills.
- Experience leading audits, incident investigations, and risk management programs.
- Ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization.
- Professional certifications (CSP, CIH, CHMM) are a plus.
