Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Assistant/Optician to join our team in Northern Michigan. This part-time (three days/week) position offers a chance to work in a fast-paced and rewarding environment, assisting patients with their optical needs while supporting the Optometrist in delivering exceptional eye care services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Assistance: Greet patients. Prepare, update and organize medical records electronically using OfficeMate.
- Eyewear Fitting: Help patients select eyewear based on prescription, face shape, lifestyle. Respect for budgetary and insurance situations. Provide expert advice on frame styles, lens options, and coatings.
- Lens and Frame Adjustments: Perform fitting and adjustment of glasses. Ensure proper alignment and comfort, making necessary adjustments to frames and lenses.
- Inventory Management: Provide Optometrist with accurate inventory of eyewear and optical supplies. Assist in selecting new and replacement frame styles, work directly with Frame Reps.
- Customer Service: Provide exceptional, professional customer service when addressing patient inquiries, scheduling follow-up appointments, and ensuring overall satisfaction.
- Billing and Insurance: Assist with insurance verification, coding, and patient billing. Help with the submission of claims and resolving any billing issues. Follow up on patient inquires.
- General Office Support: Answer phones, schedule appointments, manage patient records, and provide general administrative assistance.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience as an Optometric Assistant or Optician preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of optical products, lenses, and frame styles is a significant advantage.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to convey information, understand instructions and explain examination processes to patients.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor under pressure.
- Basic computer proficiency for office tasks and patient records management.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Maintain patient privacy.
Requirements:
- Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods and move around the office.
- Ability to handle sensitive patient information with confidentiality and professionalism.
- Previous experience working with insurance plans (vision) is a plus.
- Comfortable working in a medical office environment.
Pay Scale:
- The pay for this position will be based on experience and qualifications. Discussed during interview.
- Staff receive vision services.
