Thursdays 7pm-7am, Friday 3-11pm, & Saturday/Sunda 5pm-1am
JOB SUMMARY:
Registers inpatients and outpatients, and performs the pre-service data requirements efficiently and accurately by entering the required information into the SMC Patient System. Assists patients with the use of the kiosks to register if working in Central Registration. Uses good customer skills when conversing with patients, both face-to-face and over the phone and presents a professional image of SMC. Provides and explains all required documents to the patient, and answers their questions. Informs of, and/or collects pre- payments from patients, and provides appropriate payment options to patients including patient payment contracts and applications for financial assistance. Acts as back-up to Switchboard Operations and PAS ED Intake Clerk if working in the ED. Uses initiative to maintain the registrar’s administrative responsibilities, and to solve registration-related problems. Supports the resolution of PAS and other department staff problems as they occur. Keeps ancillary departments, and inpatient floor staff, informed of problems, delays, and other situations that could impact the delivery of efficient, competent and compassionate care. Keeps registration supervisor, and/or PAS director informed of patient complaints and other situations requiring attention. Participates in performance improvement and CQI activities

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School graduate or equivalent
-
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

Excellent customer services skills

Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills (listening, non-verbal communication, tone, empathy)

Basic computer knowledge
-
Ability to type 40 wpm
-
Previous experience in a medical environment, a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Able to speak clearly and distinctly with staff, patients, and families

Able to hear to converse with others on the phone

Able to stand/walk for extended periods of time throughout the work schedule, with some lifting and bending

Demonstrates adequate vision to prepare and read documents accurately

Demonstrates adequate stamina to deal with stressful situations and to complete the necessary work schedule

Possess fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination to manage office equipment
