What are the responsibilities and job description for the Caregiver/Companion position at Stone Family?
Your job will be to help ensure that our son Adam who is 37 and is on the spectrum continues to have an incredibly enjoyable life. Adam likes to stay active by going to the pool, beach, parks and nature centers, visiting stores, going on walks, and listening to live music and other in-town activities. He is typically a joy to be with and has a truly sweet and loving nature. Adam can express his needs and feelings quite well despite being nonverbal. He also understands directions fairly well and is cooperative. Your goal will be to keep Adam safe and engaged while having a lot of fun!
While Adam will treat you well, so will we (his parents). We provide training, bonuses, raises and paid time off, and we’ll be very responsive to any needs you may have. As a result, our best caregivers often work for many years and stay in touch after they leave.
While this position will be mostly part-time (20-30 hours/week), we prefer someone who can work full-time (40 hours/week) or nearly full-time for several months while one of our staff is on maternity leave. In addition, while you can work any time between 2 PM and midnight, we would like you to work until midnight to the extent that you can.
Key requirements include:
- Having a big heart and being very warm, engaging, patient and attentive
- Some care giving experience, preferably involving special needs
- Enjoy being physically active
- Willing to provide toileting (wiping) support
- Being reliable and requiring limited time off
- Own or have exclusive use of a car with insurance
- Willing to fill-in for absent staff (and us) to help ensure 24x7 coverage
If you develop an especially caring bond with Adam and preferably have a Bachelors or higher degree in social work, nursing/healthcare, or education, you could advance and become the Care Manager or Primary Caregiver. These positions have additional responsibilities and correspondingly higher pay/salary.
We will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Thanks much for considering our position!
