- Responsible for independently overseeing a sophisticated Article 28 facility including Life Safety requirements, all Mechanical Infrastructure and providing hands-on participation regarding the installation, operation, and maintenance of all heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) equipment and associated systems to provide environmental conditions consistent with efficient and effective operational requirements in accordance with Stony Brook Southampton's mission, vision, and core values.
- Responsible to service / maintain equipment or care for other responsibilities at the Hospital and/or at any of the many “Off-Site Facilities” as determined by the Director of Facilities and Engineering or appointed personnel.
- Ensures proper and adequate repair, of HVAC-related including steam boilers, chillers, refrigeration systems, pumps, air compressors, generators, blowers, fans, variable frequency drives, computerized maintenance control systems, and all other associated mechanical and electrical systems. Participates in, and provides insight into the maintenance and improvements maintenance programs associated with HVAC mechanical and electrical systems and auxiliary equipment.
- Programs controls and monitors all boilers, chillers, heat recovery, and multi-zone units, pumps, fans, refrigeration systems, and performs chemical testing on heating water in boilers/heat exchangers and water in cooling towers, chillers, and other plant systems. Programs and monitors occupied and unoccupied energy efficiency scheduling with HVAC, lighting, and other systems to optimize performance and savings.
- Performs routine tasks associated with maintenance, repair, installation, and alteration of basic electrical, plumbing, and mechanical jobs. Performs preventative, casualty, and corrective maintenance on equipment. Assembling, installing, and maintaining mechanical systems, machinery, and equipment. Troubleshooting machinery and performing routine preventative maintenance. Reading, interpreting, and following instructions and operation manuals. Maintaining a schedule for inspecting, servicing, and testing machinery. Cleaning, repairing, and installing equipment and parts as needed. Operating a variety of hand and power tools. Maintaining a clean and organized work area. Complying with health and safety regulations. Performing general maintenance work on buildings as assigned.
- HS Diploma or GED equivalent.
- NYS Driver's License.
- Ability to read and write in order to understand equipment instructions and maintain logs and records of work performed and to interpret non-complex blueprints, and manufacturer's specifications. Requires approximately one-year on the job experience.
- Trade or vocational school graduation preferred. Knowledge and ability to operate hand and power tools. Mechanical aptitude and ability. Strong computer skills. Good troubleshooting skills.
- Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke free environment. Smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere on campus, including parking lots and outdoor areas on the premises.
