THE ROLE
The Coordinator, Institutional Giving will play a supportive role in maintaining and expanding philanthropic income from private foundations, public agencies, and elected officials, as well as major individual donors through their family foundations. Institutional Giving at StoryCorps—a division within StoryCorps’ eight-person Development Department—is a vital engine at the heart of StoryCorps, generating revenue and driving growth for the organization’s operations and programming. StoryCorps’ annual institutional portfolio includes major foundations, government, and publicly-funded grantmaking entities- generating over $8M in annual or multi-year commitments.
This full-time position reports directly to one of two Associate Directors of Institutional Giving and works closely with the second Associate Director and the Managing Director of Institutional Advancement. The Coordinator will play a critical role in contributing to the organization’s goals, with key responsibilities spanning grant writing and management, research, and administrative tasks. In addition, this role will collaborate with the Finance, Integrated Marketing, and Programs teams to ensure the tracking and timely delivery of key grant-related deliverables.
This position is a member of the StoryCorps Union and is subject to the terms and conditions outlined in our Collective Bargaining Agreement and subsequent MOU with CWA Local 1180.

What You’ll Do
Writing/Grants Management:
- Assist the Institutional Giving team in drafting letters of inquiry, reports, and proposals.
- Collaborate closely with departments across the organization, particularly Programs, Finance, and Marketing & Communications colleagues, to track grant deliverables and collect program data informing activity updates, reports, and proposals.
- Ensure timely grant submissions by managing internal reporting schedules and processes.
- Support effective donorship by drafting and sending gift acknowledgments and other correspondence.
- Organize and maintain supplemental documentation (budgets, boilerplate language, and other attachments) to support grant submissions and other donor requests.
- Maintain government grant portals, such as grants.gov and HHS Accelerator, for grant applications.
- Conduct research to identify prospective donors for StoryCorps and its various initiatives.
- Complete research profiles, preparatory talking points, and other related materials to prepare staff and leadership for donor/prospect meetings.
- Work with the Managing Director and Associate Directors to set, track, and meet annual institutional goals.
- In collaboration with the Institutional Giving team, maintain Salesforce as the source of record for all donor information, activities, and grant deliverables; pull reports to track activities/revenue, update donor contact information, and support donor moves management.
- Manage Institutional Giving tracking systems, including program statistics, grant deliverables, etc.
- Manage expense reporting for the Institutional Giving team.
- Perform other duties to support the Development Department, as assigned.
ABOUT YOU
- 1-2 years experience in nonprofit fundraising, particularly in the fields of arts, culture, human rights, and/or media/public radio.
- Superb written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write and edit persuasively as well as tailor materials to different audiences.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including cultural competence/humility and the ability to thrive in a diverse work environment.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google programs (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive / Docs).
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable in order to contribute to problem-solving activities within a growing, changing organization.
- Deep cultural competence and humility, thriving in diverse and inclusive work environments; upholding DEI principles in both internal and external communications.
- Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience
- Familiarity with prospect research, including Instrumental as well as other online research tools.
- Donor database experience (Salesforce preferred).
- Experience writing grants and reports with a track record of success.
- Travel Percentage: Up to 10% with an expectation that this position will be required to come onsite at StoryCorps Headquarters (80 Hanson Pl, Brooklyn, NY) once a month for team meetings.
