Position Overview 

The intern will work closely with experienced staff engineers developing software applications and GUIs which directly support our SubCom manufacturing processes.  The intern will develop valuable technical, teamwork, and project management skills during their SubCom internship.

Responsibilities 

• Our SubCom Newington CTES (Certification Test Equipment and Software Development) department supports design transfer of optical communication products from R&D to our Newington, NH OSA, OPS, and Optical Filter production facilities.
• OSA: Assembles, splices, and functionally tests electro-optical modules and trays which are the building blocks for SubCom underwater Repeaters, Branching Units, and WSS ROADM network elements.
• OPS: Assembles, splices, and functionally tests SubCom under water Repeaters, Branching Units, and WSS ROADM network elements.
• Optical Filters: Manufactures optical fiber Bragg gratings used in the manufacture of SubCom underwater network elements.
• Software intern reports to the CTES department engineering manager.
• Interns are typically mentored by experienced staff engineers developing software applications, GUIs, and database parsers used for functional test processes for optical communication products. 

Qualifications

Qualifications 

• Interns following the lead of staff engineers write, debug, and maintain software on Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems using National Instruments Labwindows/CVI (ANSI C), TestStand test executive, and Linux C environments.
• Interns should be familiar with software development Integrated Development Environments and will learn to develop automated functional test code and routines based on sound engineering and laboratory practices.
• Knowledge of electro-optical telecommunications concepts and laboratory instrumentation
• Interns typically shadow experienced staff software engineers
• Interns will be assigned software development project(s) commensurate with their skill level
