General Description:
The purpose of this position is to be accountable for executing on tax vision and strategies, establishing tax policies and procedures, and for managing the tax operations and reporting for the SCAI (Sumitomo Chemical America, Inc.) region, including: the Valent Group of Companies, MGK, SPNA, and SCAT (“the Companies”). This includes development of the optimal tax strategy, structures policies and procedures to minimize the tax liability yet remaining in compliance with all the relevant tax laws. Support all group companies’ business strategies including licensing, mergers, and acquisitions and major capital projects. Responsible for managing all statutory tax filings and financial accounting for the tax related accounts. Manages and develops tax staff to improve capabilities, competencies, staying current on tax changes, and overall impact to the organization.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Responsible for timely compliant submissions of all statutory tax filings.
- Leads the Financial Audit regarding all tax matters and Tax Related Accounts.
- Accountable for setting tax strategies, establishing tax policies and procedures, and for overseeing companies tax requirements and reporting.
- Accountable for supporting the finance functions, other corporate functions, and Operations with regards to all tax matters.
- Accountable for representing the Companies in federal, state, local, and internal tax audits, and in negotiations with applicable tax authorities, and for defending the Companies tax positions.
- Accountable for compliance with the tax laws of all jurisdictions in which the Companies operate.
- Responsible for effective and clear communication with respect to tax policies and procedures (as well as other financial matters) across the Companies.
- Partners with Operations/Corporate Function leaders to ensure that tax considerations are appropriately integrated into new business initiatives.
- Ensures that the tax function is appropriately staffed, trained, and managed (including hiring, performance management and other employment status decisions for the department).
- Provides guidance and leadership to the tax function in completing objectives.
- Manages and coaches direct reports and develops team to improve capabilities and competencies.
- Maintains key relationships with Finance Function, Other Corporate Functions, Operations, regions and countries.
- Works with SCC in developing and adherence to transfer prices and document practice in accordance with International Standards.
- Ensure tax compliance in intercompany transactions with US and foreign subsidiaries.
Qualifications:
- 10 or more years of relevant tax experience. Experience with a Big 4 firm or a large corporate tax department of a multinational company is desired.
- Proven knowledge of Complex Federal and International tax concepts applicable to corporations, ASC 740 preparation and analysis and US tax reporting for international operations
- Experience with tax research software, i.e., CCH, BNA, etc.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Strong project management skills
- Effective oral and written communications skills within Finance function, and across the organization
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Education:
- Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration. J.D., LLM, MST, or MBA are helpful.
- CPA with an active license or equivalent preferred.
Travel: up to 20% of the time.

Base Salary: The estimated annual base salary for this position ranges from:
$200,000 to $240,000. Individual pay is based upon location, skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
Incentives: All full-time employees are eligible for an incentive program or profit-sharing program in addition to their base salary.
