Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain a friendly, cheerful, and helpful attitude to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
- Provides instruction in climbing and rappelling techniques to participants.
- Provide first line supervision of climbing activities during operations.
- Become familiar with all the proper gear supplied prior to the camping season.
- Become thoroughly familiar with all information relative to the climbing and rappelling facilities.
- Participate in the specialized program training during the staff training period.
- Continue on-the-job training throughout the season.
- Other duties or projects as assigned by SBR leadership.
- Abide by policies and procedure outlined in the SBR staff handbook.
Qualifications & Training
- 18 years of age or older
- Must be able to complete Guide Training and assessment (provided)
- Preferred: Possess current First Aid and CPR and AED certification
- Preferred: BSA C.O.P.E. Level 1 or 2 Instructor Certification (training provided)
- Preferred: Experience guiding/facilitating and managing others
- Ability to use Microsoft Teams daily for work related communication and coordination
- Be or become a registered member of Scouting America
Performance Results
- Completes contract period with 2-4 positive experiences
- Receive one or more Staff Appreciation Cards from staff or participants
- Contribute at least one improvement to the Rocks/Canopy program
- Provide at least one memorable moment that matters to a participant
Physical Requirements
- Up to 8 hours a day of either standing, walking, hiking, and the ability to lift 50-70 lbs.
- Comfortable at heights of 6' to 180'
- Can pass the physical exam and approved for SBR height and weight requirements
