Organize / manage 5-day whitewater Treks in New River Gorge National Park and Preserve Train, manage, and supervise trek guides in all aspects of trek program and safety. Manage and supervise participants to ensure safety and quality of program. Maintain trek equipment in an organized and good working condition. Implement thorough leave no trace standards. Work with NPS to identify and participate in quality river service projects. Ensure staff receive periodic written performance evaluations. Maintain documentation mandated by BSA National Camp Standards and Summit SOPs. Maintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe work area Other duties or projects as assigned by SBR leadership Abide by policies and procedure outlined in the SBR staff handbook Qualifications & Training
21 years of age or older Experienced and Documented Commercial Trip Leader on the New River in West Virginia. Competent Class 1-3 whitewater paddler / oarsman. Strong multi-day rafting trip knowledge Be or become certified Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Preferred : BSA Aquatics Director and Swiftwater Rescue Training. (Training provided) Must be able to secure a Summit Driving permit. This requires submitting your driving record. Ability to use Microsoft Teams daily for work related communication and coordination Be or become a registered member of Scouting America Performance Results
Assist all participants to complete the river experience Produce positive customer feedback Write end of year review to improve the program Physical Requirements
Up to 8 hours a day of either standing, walking, hiking, paddling, and the ability to lift 70 lbs. Can pass the physical exam and approved for SBR height and weight requirements Uniform
