New River Experience Director

Duties & Responsibilities
Comfortable with 5 days paddling/camping in remote setting without running water/electricity
Review and verify participant tent assignments, waivers, medical conditions, and dietary restrictions before trip.
Provide pre-trip safety briefing and kayak orientation
Responsible for trip dynamics, safety, and communications
Coordinate with SBR leadership and National Park Service in case of emergency evacuation
Interpret the natural and cultural history of the New River Gorge
Complete post trip reporting with West Virginia DNR
Maintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe working area
Other duties or projects as assigned by SBR leadership
Abide by policies and procedure outlined in the SBR staff handbook
18 years of age or older
Documentation & references proving you have worked as a commercial river guide
Wilderness First Aid & Swiftwater Rescue (training provided)
Confident Swimmer
Position is contingent on ability to pass river guide and swiftwater rescue training. You may be reassigned to other jobs if you do not pass the training courses.
Ability to use Microsoft Teams daily for work related communication and coordination
Be or become a registered member of Scouting America
Performance Results
Provide end of year feedback on ways to improve the program
Receive positive feedback from customers
Physical Requirements
Up to 8 hours a day of either, paddling, swimming, hiking, and the ability to lift 70 lbs.
Must be able to climb back in raft from whitewater
Can pass the physical exam and approved for SBR height and weight requirements HERE
