What You’ll Do to Grow
1. Engage in Project Design & Scope Development
- Collaborate with the Preconstruction Manager (PCM) to review plans and contribute to early-stage decision-making.
- Expand your technical understanding by addressing livestock-specific needs like climate control, biosecurity, and environmental compliance.
- Grow your critical thinking by navigating site-specific challenges—from drainage to animal welfare requirements.
2. Hone Your Estimating & Analytical Skills
- Interpret blueprints, specs, and engineering data to develop detailed cost estimates for agricultural infrastructure.
- Gain deep insight into vendor and trade pricing trends, helping you optimize budgets without compromising quality.
- Strengthen your financial analysis skills by performing cost trend reviews and identifying savings opportunities.
3. Lead Procurement & Bid Coordination
- Manage RFQs, evaluate bids, and align material take-offs with project goals.
- Build relationships with trade partners and vendors, enhancing your professional network in the Ag-Commercial industry.
- Work closely with project teams to transition estimates into actionable construction plans.
4. Participate in Project Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
- Grow your field experience with site visits and real-world condition assessments.
- Play a key role in cost adjustments, change order pricing, and lessons learned reviews.
- Contribute to improving internal processes and cost-tracking strategies across future builds.
5. Take Ownership of Full-Cycle Estimating
- Manage estimates from concept to contract for dairy operations, poultry houses, manure systems, and more.
- Stay ahead of industry trends by attending construction workshops and exploring new technologies in livestock facility construction.
- Position yourself for leadership roles by consistently delivering value, accuracy, and insight.

Ideal Traits & Experience:
- Proven success in large-scale ag/livestock estimating (dairy barns, hog/poultry facilities, manure management systems, etc.)
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Skilled in construction cost analysis, bid preparation, and budget forecasting
- Eager to take initiative, solve problems, and grow professionally in a specialized field
Working Environment & Flexibility
- Position may be remote or based in Columbus, Nebraska
- Travel to job sites may be required—expect hands-on learning in real agricultural environments
- Balance between office-based estimating and onsite project evaluation for a comprehensive experience
