What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodial - Night Supervisor position at Summit Hill School District 161?
- Supervises and performs, if needed, general cleaning, security, and maintenance in school buildings and grounds; maintains equipment in functional condition; and provides cleaning and custodial assistance to students, teachers, visitors and others as necessary.
- Performs related duties and general maintenance work as required.
- Check in with the Facilities Manager Daily for any special items or concerns.
- Responsible for overseeing the quality and quantity of all work performed by Custodial, Buildings, & Grounds staff, and all others contracted to do work at the schools after hours.
- Monitor and enforce all fire, safety, and governing bodies' codes or regulations to ensure the safety of all students, staff and visitors.
- Establish and implement training programs for all Cleaning Custodians.
- Ensure the equipment used by staff to include but is not limited to: hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, shovels, and hand tools, are in safe working order.
- On call 24 hours a day in case of building emergencies.
- Manage all contractors on site, ensuring that all health and safety requirements are met, monitor their performance and inspect completed work after normal business hours.
- Ensures Staff or Contractors clears snow from entrances and walks, and spread sand and ice melting chemicals when needed.
- Coordinates building usage needs and special event set-ups for internal school groups and community groups and assigns custodial and/or maintenance activities in support of the event.
- Utilize a computerized work order system for buildings and grounds.
- Complete performance reviews of building Cleaning Custodians with support from building principals.
- Answer calls from absent cleaning custodians, arrange for coverage, or fill in where necessary.
- Develop and balance custodial work schedules, working collaboratively with building principals.
- Plans & supervises the detailed cleaning of the buildings of the district over breaks and provides the Facilities Manager with a schedule.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Position performance is evaluated annually by the Facilities Manager.
- Employed to work the full work year of approximately 260 days.
- $25.00 per hour along with benefits.
- Technical training in building management and maintenance and/or relevant building management work experience.
- Effective manager, with proven ability to build the capacity of others and develop staff.
- Custodial cleaning in education environment background, preferred.
- Strong communication, creative, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with time-sensitive deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise the responsibilities assigned to this position.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple deadlines to project completion on time.
- Is pleasant, positive, and able to contribute to a productive work environment.
- Works in school building environment.
- Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
- High School diploma.
- Previous experience in building and cleaning maintenance is preferred.
- State Motor Vehicle Operator's license or ability to provide own transportation.

Under the direct supervision of the Facilities Manager and coordinates with building Principals.
Working Hours (subject to change)
While School is in session (typically): Monday - Friday 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
During Breaks (at the supervisor's discretion): Monday - Friday 7:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Position Responsibilities:
Occasional travel between schools or between schools and the district office may be required and reimbursed at the District rate when the proper paperwork is submitted.
