POSITION TITLE : PEDIATRIC DENTAL RESIDENCY DIRECTOR

FLSA : EXEMPT

Job Summary :

The Pediatric Dental Residency Director is responsible for the leadership, organization, and administration of a pediatric dental residency program. The role involves fostering a high-quality educational environment that aligns with accreditation standards and prepares residents for excellence in pediatric dentistry.

Supervisory Responsibilities :

  • Direct and manage the Pediatric Dental Residency staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for resolving complex Pediatric Dental Residency issues or discrepancies.
  • Monitor the team's productivity and provide regular feedback to ensure high performance.
  • Ensure the team adheres to SCHC principles, company policies, and regulatory requirements.

Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Develop and maintain the residency program in compliance with Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) standards.
  • Oversee curriculum design, clinical rotations, and didactic components.
  • Ensure a robust resident evaluation and feedback system is in place.
  • Manage program budgets, resources, and schedules effectively.
  • Supervise and mentor residents in clinical and academic settings.
  • Coordinate with faculty to deliver high-quality lectures, seminars, and hands-on training.
  • Incorporate evidence-based practices and advancements in pediatric dentistry into the curriculum.
  • Maintain CODA accreditation, ensuring all documentation and requirements are met.
  • Prepare for and participate in accreditation site visits and reporting.
  • Develop policies and procedures to support program standards.
  • Facilitate interdepartmental and interdisciplinary initiatives to enhance education.
  • Lead resident recruitment efforts, including application reviews and interviews.
  • Provide academic guidance, career advice, and personal support to residents.
  • Address resident concerns and foster a positive learning environment.
  • Ensure the highest standard of patient care in clinical training settings.
  • Monitor resident clinical performance and skill development.
  • Collaborate with affiliated clinics and hospitals to enhance training opportunities.
  • Direct residents in providing comprehensive pediatric dental care and oversee care for affiliated hospitals' pediatric patients.
  • Assist in implementing preventive guidelines for managing pediatric dental diseases based on community standards and national oral health guidelines.
  • Act as a liaison with NYU Langone and medical staff to support integrated care models, offering consultations on dental health issues.
  • Ensure exceptional levels of customer service for patients and stakeholders.
  • Attest to patient charts and ensure compliance with documentation standards for resident visits.
  • Take after-hours emergency calls and provide necessary dental care as part of a rotating schedule.
  • Supervise and mentor residents in both clinical and academic settings, maintaining a supportive learning environment.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed to support the centers.

  • Ability to perform precise manipulations through the regular use of office equipment, including computers, copy machines, fax machines, telephones, calculators, and more.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and related software.
  • Education and Experience :

  • A DDS or DMD degree is required.
  • Must hold a current Florida Dental License
  • DEA Certificate is required.
  • Completion of an ADA-accredited Advanced Education Program in Pediatric Dentistry.
  • Board certification in Pediatric Dentistry is required.
  • Must possess a Florida Pediatric Conscious Sedation Permit.
  • Eligible for an active medical staff appointment at affiliated hospitals.
  • Membership with the American Dental Association (ADA) and the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD) must be maintained.
  • Certification in BLS, ACLS, and PALS is required.
  • Proven leadership and managerial skills to oversee the NYU Langone postdoctoral pediatric dental residency program and provide pediatric dental care in clinical and hospital settings.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in teaching or a leadership role in a dental residency program is essential.
  • Demonstrated expertise in clinical practice within pediatric dentistry.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • May be exposed to adverse indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, blood borne pathogens, physical hazards (e.g., needle pricks, etc.) and chemical hazards.
