The SUNY Orange Education Department is excited to be seeking an individual with early childhood expertise who possesses a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, a strong foundation in developmentally appropriate practice, and who can teach a variety of courses within the department.
The individual who fills this position will teach a full load of 30 credits /year of Education Department course offerings at either of our campuses or any other college site. Teaching assignments may include:
- Child Development
- Language and Literacy Development
- Infant and Toddler Development and Curriculum
- Childhood Health, Safety, and Nutrition
- Observation and Assessment
- Home, School, and Community Partnerships
- Early Childhood Curriculum
This position requires a wide range of professional responsibilities and activities, including participation in curriculum and course development, departmental planning, course assessment, attendance at department and college meetings, participation on department and Governance committees, student advising and other duties as assigned.
Instructors are expected to participate in College and Department assessment initiatives.
Teaching assignments may be on the Middletown campus, the Newburgh campus, or via remote instruction.
Job Requirements:
Education Required: Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education, OR a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, with documented commitment to completing Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field in 4 years or less.
Experience Required: Early childhood classroom teaching experience or related services experience (preferably with children from birth-age 5); expertise in early childhood language and literacy development.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:
- Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
- Teaching Certification in Early Childhood and/or Childhood Education
- Experience working with children from Birth-age 5
- Experience with D2L Brightspace or other comparable learning management system
- Teaching experience in higher education
- Willingness to establish and maintain strong faculty/student relationships
- A commitment to the use of various instructional strategies, which model effective teaching practice
- Experience organizing and carrying out teaching-related professional development opportunities
- Experience with inclusive and/or culturally responsive pedagogy
- Bilingual Skills
