What are the responsibilities and job description for the English Instructor - FT Tenure Track - SUNY Orange position at SUNY Orange?
The SUNY Orange English Department is excited to seek a technologically diverse individual with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, as well as student learning and success who can teach a variety of courses within the department.
The individual who fills this position will teach a full load (27 credits/year) of English Department course offerings at either of our campuses or any other college site. Teaching assignments will include Freshman English 1 & 2 and, potentially, developmental reading, developmental writing or 200-level literature courses. At SUNY Orange, Freshman English 1 & 2 are required in each academic program. Our Freshman English 1 format is the co-requisite model where students take a skill-building co-requisite module along with their composition course.
This position requires a wide range of professional responsibilities and activities, including participation in curriculum and course development, departmental planning, attendance at department and college meetings, participation on department and Governance committees, student advising and other duties as assigned.
Instructors are expected to participate in College and Department assessment initiatives.
Teaching assignments may be on the Middletown or Newburgh campus or both.
Job Requirements:
Education Required: MAT, MS or MA in teaching with a concentration in English; OR an MA/MS in Literature, Rhetoric and Composition, or a related degree; OR an MFA in Creative Writing.
Experience Required: Experience teaching Freshman Composition and developmental reading and/or writing courses in a college setting.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:
- Experience in online teaching in both asynchronous and synchronous formats with demonstrated evidence of student engagement
- Experience with D2L Brightspace or other comparable learning platform
- Community college teaching experience.
- Interest in or experience with co-requisite course delivery.
- Experience with inclusive and/or culturally responsive pedagogy.
- Coursework in one or more literary genres.
- Bilingual Skills.

Salary: $57,431 per the faculty contract. This is a 10 month Faculty position.
