Surf to Snow is looking for a Payroll Specialist to join our team! This is an exciting time of growth for our company: we’ve increased our headcount by 44% in the last year and we aren’t slowing down. In this role, you'll play a critical role in ensuring timely and accurate administration of payroll processes, management of benefits programs, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. You will also support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, and assist with financial audits. You will report to our Director of Business Operations and work closely with HR and Finance departments.
Essential Functions
Payroll Administration, Compliance, and Reporting
- Compile, prepare, and accurately enter timekeeping and payroll for all departments
- Process and monitor garnishment orders and other factors that impact payroll specifications
- Compute and disburse salaries, deductions, taxes, and other withholdings
- Process bi-monthly and off-cycle payroll
- Post payroll data and prepare reports
- Stay updated with the taxation of salaries, benefits, and other factors
- Update and maintain the database regarding salaries and bonuses
- Prepare and distribute W-2s, 1099s, and other required tax documents
- Complete quarterly and annual payroll tax filings, including Forms 941, 940, and applicable state and local returns
- Assist in payroll audits
- Process employee 401(k) contributions
- Process deposit schedule requirements
Benefits Administration
- Support Open Enrollment
- Oversee maintenance of employee benefit elections and keep benefits information is up to date
- Review and process monthly benefit invoices for Director of Business Operations approval
Employee Support and Communication
- Respond to employee inquiries and requests related to payroll
- Support other payroll-related projects and tasks as needed
- Support onboarding and offboarding, including supporting employee enrollment into benefits
Qualifications
Minimum:
- High school diploma or GED
- Proven experience with payroll processing
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to payroll and benefits, including FLSA, FICA, COBRA, ACA, and ERISA
- Ability to hold sensitive information professionally and in confidence
- Extremely detail oriented and able to work independently
- Commitment to accuracy and timeliness
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Desired:
- Associates or Bachelor's Degree in human resources, accounting, business, or other relevant field
- Payroll or HR certification, such as Certified Payroll Professional or Professional in Human Resources
- Experience with multi-state payroll and benefits administration
- Experience with prevailing wage
- Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint
