Job Overview
As an Optometric Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting optometrists in providing eye care services to patients. Your responsibilities will include: Conducting preliminary eye exams, including taking the patient's history and measuring visual acuity. The Optometric Technician will perform diagnostic tests, such as tonometry, visual field testing, and retinal imaging. The Technician also assists with contact lens fittings, including teaching patients how to insert and remove lenses.. This position will be primarily in our Long Neck and Lewes locations. Please keep in mind, you may be asked to cover other locations as needed. This position is Monday through Friday. Each Tuesday, all locations are open late and all employees work a late night until 7:00pm. Experience in Optometry is preferred, but we are willing to train the right person! Pay is negotiable according to experience.
Duties
- Conduct preliminary tests on patients such as visual acuity, color vision, depth perception, and eye muscle movements
- Prepare patients for examinations by gathering medical history and explaining procedures
- Assist Optometrist during eye exams and minor surgical procedures
- Perform diagnostic tests including tonometry, visual field testing, and retinal imaging
- Maintain cleanliness and aseptic techniques in examination rooms and equipment
- Manage medical records accurately and ensure patient confidentiality
- Educate patients on contact lens insertion, removal, and care
- Assist with frame selection and basic adjustments
-Answering and returning patient voicemails/questions/concerns for Technician/Dr. related messages.
Skills
- Experience in a clinical setting or retail sales environment is beneficial
- Knowledge of medical terminology and physiology
- Ability to perform basic optical tasks such as lensometry and frame measurements
- Understanding of vital signs measurement techniques
- Familiarity with aseptic techniques for maintaining a sterile environment
Qualifications
- Medical office experience required
- Familiarity with medical terminology required
- Ability to perform vital signs preferred
- Experience in front desk duties preferred
- Skilled in appointment scheduling preferred
- Knowledge of EMR systems preferred
- Understanding the basics medical coding and billing preferred
