Purpose of the Position:
The Assistant Controller position supports the financial management and accounting operations of the organization. The role and responsibilities include a combination of accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and managerial duties.
Typical Duties:
The following duties are typical of the position but are not all-encompassing.
1. Financial Management: Assist in quarterly and annual financial statement reporting by preparing schedules and making necessary adjustments. Assist in creating and maintaining budgets and financial forecasts for ongoing projects and the company as a whole. Prepare project-specific reports and reconciliations for cash management purposes.
2. Accounting Operations: Oversee the accuracy of invoices, collections, and vendor payments. Work with payroll personnel to ensure timely and accurate payment of employees. Assist Controller in maintaining and reconciling the general ledger accounts on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Prepare schedules for complex project billings as needed. Assist in overseeing and completing select daily accounting tasks.
3. Compliance: Assist in the preparation of various monthly, quarterly, and annual tax and payroll filings.
4. Project and Job Cost Analysis: Provide financial data to project managers to assist in decision-making.
5. Systems and Process Improvement: Work with accounting or project management software to streamline operations. Identify inefficiencies in current accounting processes and recommend improvements. Assist in implementing technology solutions to improve accuracy and efficiency.
6. Team Leadership: Supervise and support the accounting team alongside the Controller and VP of Finance. Train staff on financial policies, procedures, and software systems. Act as a liaison between the accounting department and other departments, including operations and project management.
Limits of Authority:
1. May not change the scope of roles or processes and procedures without prior approval from Controller and VP of Finance.
2. Within the project team has the responsibility to assign work, to establish schedules, to instruct team members, and to provide feedback.
3. Does not have hiring and termination authority, but may recommend such actions.
Relationship to Others:
1. Reports directly to Controller and VP of Finance.
2. Supervise and support the accounting team alongside the Controller and VP of Finance.
3. Assistant Controller shall promote cooperation and communication within the accounting department.
4. Act as a liaison between the accounting department and other departments, including operations and project management.
Accountability:
1. Ability to work independently without close supervision and be capable of exercising independent judgement.
2. Ability to identify opportunities for continuous improvement within the accounting department. Work with management to standardize and implement new processes and procedures.

Knowledge and Experience Required:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA certification preferred).
2. Familiarity with the electrical contracting industry, construction accounting, and the unique aspects of project-based accounting is preferred.
3. Proficiency in accounting software (Sage300 and COINS are a plus) and Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Excel).
4. Knowledge of tax laws, labor laws, and other contractor-specific regulations.
5. Strong analytical skills for evaluating financial performance and supporting decision-making.
6. Ability to communicate effectively with team members, management, project managers, vendors, and clients.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
