Tasting Room Manager Job Description

Sweeten Creek Brewing is looking for a self-motivated, detail-oriented Tasting Room Manager to join our team. SCB is a brewery with a restaurant and expansive green space located just outside downtown Asheville, NC. Job Title: Tasting Room Manager
Wage: Hourly, with tips and sales-based bonuses
Reports to: Owners
Status: Full-Time

Summary:
We’re looking for a dynamic, organized, and proactive Tasting Room Manager who can juggle day-to-day operations, event coordination, and inventory management with ease. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, have a problem solving attitude and love working with people.

  • Be detail-oriented with inventory management, ordering supplies, and keeping stock levels optimized.
  • Exhibit a professional, friendly, and outgoing personality that encourages a welcoming and energetic atmosphere for guests and staff alike.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and leadership skills, ensuring that both staff and customers have an exceptional experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Event Planning & Coordination: Work with leadership and team members to develop, promote, and oversee weekly and special events, including beer tastings, food pairings, and large gatherings.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee the ordering, receiving, and organization of Tasting Room supplies, including beer, cider, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages. Ensure that inventory is rotated, updated, and well-stocked.
  • Merchandise Display: Organize and maintain the display of Tasting Room merchandise to ensure it is visually appealing and accessible.
  • Staffing & Scheduling: Hire, train, and manage Tasting Room staff. Schedule shifts, ensuring proper coverage for daily operations, special events, and high-traffic periods.
  • Sales Goals & Tracking: Establish and track sales goals for staff, creating a system of accountability and rewarding high performers with incentives.
  • Social Media & Marketing Support: Assist with maintaining and updating the brewery’s social media presence across platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and the brewery website.
  • Event & Retail Coordination: Manage event logistics with vendors, food trucks as needed, and the in-house kitchen partner to ensure seamless collaboration for special events. Maintain overall cleanliness, organization, and safety in the Tasting Room.
  • Weekly Tap Line & Draft Inventory Maintenance: Ensure proper maintenance and cleaning of the tap lines and conduct weekly beer rotations to keep offerings fresh and exciting for customers.
  • Financial Management: Oversee the collection and counting of money drawers, credit card tips, and nightly reporting.
  • Weekend and Weeknight Availability: Work special events and maintain the calendar, ensuring the Tasting Room is consistently booked and ready for action.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, twist, bend, push, pull, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work effectively in varying temperatures and conditions, including heat, cold, and humidity.

Qualifications:

  • A deep passion for craft beer and a desire to keep learning about new trends and offerings.
  • Previous experience in Tap Room management or event planning, with a preference for those with retail craft beer experience.
  • Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills, with experience managing multiple tasks and events simultaneously.
  • Proficient in computer and app-based platforms, including POS systems, social media management tools, Excel, and Word.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, create schedules, and drive results.
  • Ability to think on your feet and adapt to an ever-changing environment.
  • Willingness to pitch in where needed, with a hands-on attitude when necessary.
  • Must love dogs!

Education and/or Experience:

  • An Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Sales and Marketing is preferred.
  • At least two years of experience in the craft beer industry or a related field.
  • Previous experience in the craft beer industry is highly preferred.
  • Strong background in event planning and staff management.
  • Proficiency with social media platforms and the ability to use them effectively and responsibly for both marketing and customer engagement.

This is an hourly position, with compensation based on experience. The role includes paid vacation, holiday time off, and an on-premise sales incentive program in addition to the base wage.
