Job Description - Assistant Controller (construction firm)
Work for a family owned heavy civil and environmental construction firm, with projects ranging from energy and utilities to roads, bridges, and marine infrastructure. As an Assistant Controller, you will provide essential support to the Accounts Payable team, assist the Controller with financial reporting, and support Human Resources with payroll and employee-related tasks. This position requires a detail-oriented and proactive individual who can juggle multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with processing and coding vendor invoices.
- Help manage and reconcile Accounts Payable accounts, ensuring timely payments to vendors.
- Coordinate with project managers and vendors for invoice discrepancies.
- Maintain organized records of all Accounts Payable transactions.
- Assist in preparing monthly financial statements and reports.
- Help with reconciliations of bank and general ledger accounts.
- Aid in budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Assist in audits by providing necessary documentation and reports.
- Assist with payroll processing and related documentation.
- Help with employee benefits administration and record-keeping.
- Provide general administrative support to Human Resources and the accounting teams.
- Assist with job billings and collections, receivable forecasting, banking, cash flows, and prequalification information.
- Assist with monthly closings - reconciliations for accounts payable, accounts receivable and job cost reviews.
- Assist with all agency's compliance.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Bachelor's preferred).
- 5 years of experience in accounting roles, preferably in construction or a multi-company environment.
- Experience in the Construction Industry a must.
- Knowledge of accounting software (experience with SAGE 300 for Construction) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles.
- Experience with accounts payable and general ledger functions.
- Familiarity with payroll processes and HR tasks is a plus.
Salary : $75,000 - $120,000
