How this role drives the company forward:
The Manufacturing Technician II is responsible for the manufacture of instruments and substrates within the production facility. The position requires the ability to follow quality and technical procedures, work independently on routine assignments, and collaborate effectively within the team. The individual exercises good judgment when resolving problems and communicates effectively with management and engineering teams. This position is expected to work cross-functionally with internal Engineering, Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Planning, and Purchasing teams to ensure timely delivery of quality instruments and to continuously improve the systems manufacturing processes.

The Manufacturing Technician II is an on-site role located in San Jose, CA.


How you will make an impact:
In this role, you will be responsible for the quality of our raw materials, sub-assemblies and full instrument builds that empower our customers’ ever-expanding search for knowledge and solutions. You will ensure that incoming parts are correct and adhere to our drawings, assemble sub-assemblies to our internal documentation standards and assemble and test full systems. You will troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues and work with Manufacturing Engineers to issues and modify work instructions and/or documentation to correct the issue for future builds. You will use your attention to detail to inspect chip substrates using advanced optical inspection equipment, process substrates for laser marking, precision etching, and final cleaning and packaging. You will work with Quality Assurance to keep accurate records of test results and to ensure that all our instruments and consumables are aligned to the high standards Takara Bio USA has established.


What will you do:
  • Responsible for instrument and substrate manufacturing which includes producing, assembling, testing, and packing instruments and processing, etching, inspecting, and packaging chip substrates.
  • Align, fit, modify, and assemble component parts using hand or power tools, fixtures, templates, or microscopes.
  • Troubleshoot basic electrical circuits using multimeters to diagnose functional issues.
  • Create or repair cable assemblies using effective solder connections or crimp connections, solder SMT components and thru hole components to PCBA’s.
  • Assemble optical assemblies, exercising care for cleanliness of optical paths and ensuring light tight assemblies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and with basic program installs and configuration.
  • May be responsible for performing experiments, first article inspections, and tool/fixture qualifications.
  • Identify and communicate potential manufacturing/process improvements to management.
  • Contribute to the implementation of manufacturing process changes and enhancements and use of manufacturing-related tools and fixtures; update work instructions to reflect changes.
  • Follow inventory control procedures to maintain inventory accuracy and integrity.
  • Comply with and support quality management system policies and procedures.
  • Complete accurate and timely manufacturing documentation including work order pick lists, quality records, etc.; ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and good manufacturing practices.
  • May assist Manufacturing Engineers in performance of product transfer activities.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and help coordinate calibration and service needs.
  • May assist in training and mentoring entry level Manufacturing Technicians.
  • Support company goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.



How will you get here?
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent or higher.
  • 5-7 years of hands-on assembly experience in the medical device industry or similar.
  • Good manual dexterity and fine motor skills. Experience in the assembly of high-precision subassemblies.
  • Ability and willingness to quickly learn and apply new skills, procedures, and approaches.
  • Attention to detail; able to follow detailed written and oral instructions.
  • Good English (verbal and written) communication skills. Experience documenting detailed observations and following Good Documentation Practices (GDP) while executing Manufacturing Work Instruction (WI).
  • Skilled in creating assemblies involving miniature parts and electronics components.
  • Familiarity reading/interpreting engineering drawings and correlating dimensions to real world parts in assembly to troubleshoot assembly and part issues.
  • Detail-oriented, motivated, and thoughtful with a strong work ethic.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.
  • Hands-on experience in soldering and using manufacturing equipment such as lathes and mills.
  • Experience and knowledge of working in GMP/FDA regulated environment preferred.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. unassisted.

The US base salary range for this full-time position, expected to be located in San Jose, CA, is $120,000 - $128,000 USD. This range may be modified at any time at our sole discretion. Individual compensation packages are based on factors unique to each candidate, including job-related skills, training, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions.

Salary : $120,000 - $128,000
