Urgent need for a Temporary Certified Phlebotomy Tech opening ASSIGNMENT LENGTH: 4 months with the possibility of an extension LOCATION: Alpine Family Medicine: Alpine, CA 91901. SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm, This position may require you provide staffing coverage at any other Health facility, as needed. Valid clean and clear Driver’s license required. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Preferred 2 years medical laboratory experience as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) and Proficient in medical terminology. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. CERTIFICATIONS PREFERRED: Phlebotomy Certification – Current California State Phlebotomy Licensure and Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate. LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required
Position Summary
Under the guidance of the Lab Supervisor and Lab Leads, you will perform phlebotomy, heel, and finger sticks, maintain POC lab equipment, and communicate effectively with laboratory customers. Your primary duties will include preparing testing kits for COVID-19 collection and testing.
Essential Functions of the Job
- Demonstrate proficiency in venipuncture, heel, and finger stick procedures.
- Handle specimen collection, preparation, accurate labeling, and disposal per the Lab Procedure Manual.
- Conduct quality control and testing of Point of Care CLIA Waived tests.
- Utilize basic computer skills for order entry, cancellation, and results tracking.
- Perform clerical duties, ensuring timely reporting and distribution of results.
- Adapt to change, multitask, and maintain accuracy and completeness in work.
- Maintain a clean workstation and manage supply inventory.
- Exhibit professionalism and excellent communication skills with patients and colleagues.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
- Adhere to departmental policies, quality assurance, safety, and infection control standards.
- Be willing to work overtime and travel to other Client lab sites as needed.
- Possess bilingual skills in English and Spanish or other languages as required.
- Participate in meetings and maintain current professional licensure and education.
Job Requirements
Education: High School or equivalent
Certifications/Licenses:
- Phlebotomy Certification – Current California State Phlebotomy Licensure
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate
- Preferred: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
Experience: Six months of medical laboratory experience as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT). Proficient in medical terminology and basic computer literacy.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Exposure to odorous chemicals, specimens, and infection risks.
- Frequent prolonged standing and walking, with occasional irregular hours.
- Physical tasks include lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, and using protective equipment.
- Driving between clinic locations may be required.
