The Laser / Molding / Powder Coating Set-Up operator is responsible for setting up and operating and correcting problems with plastics and rubber injection machines, rubber compression machine, transfer molding, powder coating, laser, plastic welder and bonding.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sets up and operates rubber and plastic injection, rubber compression and rubber transfer molding machines, including aligning and bolting molds into machines, writing or loading programs, setting up control panels, performing initial start ups and final adjustments of controls.
Inspects parts, identifies, analyzes and corrects minor and major defects in molded parts using variables, such as bonded inserts, vacuum lines and connections, material compounds, temperatures and pressures.
Apprises supervisor of any company policy violations, or employee issues deserving attention.
Notifies supervisor of persistent problems with molds and/or machines.
Works closely with supervisor, Engineering and Tool Room personnel on new parts and prototypes. Performs initial start-up and running of new molds and parts.
Deflashes molded parts, including removing excess rubber from parting line and runners.
Bonds parts by applying bonding agent to inserts to be molded.
Maintains clean and orderly work area, including sweeping floor and removing debris. Periodically removes and cleans mold.
Performs annual machine preventive maintenance, such as greasing and changing oil and filters.
Repairs/assists with unusual machine repairs as needed.
Sets up, programs and operates laser engraving machine.
Sets up and operates plastic welding machine.
Sets up and powder coats various parts.
Performs related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of and ability to physically and safely operate various machines and hand tools, including injection and compression molding machines, temperature probes and brass picks and brushes, knives, bed lathe, and other deflashing fixtures.
Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of OSHA and company safety precautions and procedures.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, instruments, gauges and dials, and count and make simple arithmetic additions and subtractions.
Ability to analyze, identify and correct machine problems and molded parts defects.
Ability to work alone and work on several tasks at the same time, often under time pressure.
Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
Ability to effectively communicate orally with other company personnel, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
Ability to assist in training new machine operators as needed. Ability to occasionally work extended hours.
