About the Role
We have a fixed term, full-time opportunity available to join our Health Protection team as a Senior Advisor Tobacco and Vaping you will be a pivotal member of our Health Protection national compliance team, working towards the realisation of the NPHS strategic agenda for Pae Ora (Healthy Futures). Your role will be instrumental in driving our efforts to reduce smoking rates, particularly among Māori and Pacific communities, and to curtail the use of vaping products among young people, as well as supporting alcohol compliance in the Regions
As our new Senior Advisor, you will contribute to and support the delivery of the National Tobacco, Vaping and Alcohol compliance workplan. You will participate in the development and delivery of timely advice to the Manager Compliance and Enforcement, including the drafting, reviewing, and managing of monitoring of deadlines.
The role will support all regional compliance teams, their programmes, and programmes within the Protection directorate. You will lead the reporting function for the Tobacco, Vape and Alcohol compliance group, driving continuous improvement in processes and practices across the team. Working closely with clinical and technical experts across Protection to promote and uphold best practice methodologies across compliance and enforcement services.

Skills and Experience
- A relevant tertiary qualification, or equivalent experience (e.g., Regulatory process, Enforcement, public health, epidemiology, informatics)
- Leadership experience, including designing and managing a portfolio of work, and resources.
- Experience in applying critical thinking and using sound judgement to develop options and provide advice, particularly in leading complex or contentious policy work.
- A preference for experience in working across multi-disciplinary teams.
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
- Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings desired
