REPORTS TO: Building Principal
JOB GOAL: To provide comprehensive and individualized guidance and counseling services to students, fostering their academic, personal, and social development. Through collaboration with students, parents, teachers, and administrators, support students in setting and achieving their educational and career goals, while also addressing any personal or social challenges they may face. Create a safe and inclusive environment where students feel empowered to explore their interests, talents, and aspirations, ultimately preparing them for success in school and beyond
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Individual Counseling: Provide confidential counseling services to students dealing with academic, personal, or social issues. This includes conducting assessments, developing action plans, and offering ongoing support.
- Group Counseling: Facilitate group counseling sessions on topics such as study skills, stress management, peer relationships, and career exploration.
- Academic Advising: Assist students in course selection, academic planning, and goal setting. Monitor students' progress and intervene as needed to ensure academic success.
- College and Career Guidance: Guide students through the college application process, including researching colleges, writing applications, and applying for financial aid. Provide information and resources on career exploration, job readiness, and vocational training programs.
- Crisis Intervention: Respond promptly to crises such as student emergencies, conflicts, or traumatic events. Offer immediate support and referral services to students in crisis.
- Parent and Teacher Collaboration: Communicate regularly with parents and teachers to address student concerns and coordinate support services. Participate in parent-teacher conferences and multidisciplinary team meetings as needed.
- Student Advocacy: Advocate for students' needs and rights within the school community. Collaborate with administrators and other stakeholders to create a supportive and inclusive school environment.
- Preventive Programs: Develop and implement preventive programs addressing issues such as bullying, substance abuse, conflict resolution, and mental health awareness. Offer workshops and presentations to students, parents, and staff.
- Data Management: Maintain accurate records of counseling sessions, assessments, and student progress. Use data to evaluate the effectiveness of counseling interventions and inform decision-making.
- Professional Development: Stay current with best practices, research, and trends in school counseling. Participate in professional development activities such as conferences, workshops, and continuing education courses.
- Community Outreach: Collaborate with community organizations, mental health agencies, and other stakeholders to enhance support services for students and families. Participate in outreach events and initiatives to promote mental health and wellness in the broader community.
- Ethical Standards: Adhere to ethical guidelines and professional standards set forth by counseling organizations such as the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) and state licensing boards. Maintain confidentiality and uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in all interactions with students, parents, and colleagues.
