Job Summary:
The head football coach is responsible for the day-to-day operations of a football program. They develop and implement strategies, lead practices, and ensure players are prepared for games. They also work with other coaches and school staff to create a positive environment for the team.
Responsibilities:
- Practice: Create a practice schedule and lead drills to improve players’ skills.
- Game preparation: Scout other teams, analyze film, and develop game plans.
- Coaching: Teach players the rules, techniques, and strategies of football.
- Player evaluation: Assess players’ skills and performance, and adjust strategies as needed.
- Team culture: Promote teamwork, communication, and respect.
- Communication: Keep parents, community members, and other stakeholders informed.
- Safety: Follow established procedures for injuries and ensure players are safe.
- Academics: Monitor players’ academic performance to ensure they meet eligibility requirements.
- Offseason/Summer: Implement an offseason workout for strength and conditioning that targets student/athletes for skill development. Have summer camps that are offered to the community and for our student-athletes. Ensures that summer pride will be implemented and run effectively.
- Properly cleans, stores, inventories, and maintains all athletic equipment and uniforms.
- Ensures that the proper forms are obtained, are current and that all student-athletes have been cleared through the Athletic Director’s office before practicing and/or playing.
- Enforces structure, discipline policies, and emphasizes sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles.
- Will work closely with the booster club, attend meetings, and communicate regularly with them.
- Checks and secures all office, storage room, outside doors, etc. after the last player leaves campus after games and/or practices.
- Adheres to medical and safety requirements.
- Coordinates with the press and reports game scores.
- Assists in the selection and training of assistant coaches.
- Serves as a role model. Models sportsmanship and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
- Focuses on solving conflict, maintaining confidentiality, remaining open to others’ ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit, working within the school’s established culture, and demonstrates the ability to successfully coach, lead, and motivate student-athletes.
- Educate parents and student-athletes on the philosophy, expectations, and policies of their assigned sport and insist that they maintain respect for game officials, opponents, administrators and fans.
- Implement strategies that develop both individual discipline and team discipline and monitor their effectiveness throughout the school year.
- Provide proper supervision for all team members during practice, game, and athletic events.
- Be familiar with the district approved application to communicate with players and parents.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of football rules, regulations, techniques, and strategies.
- Ability to motivate and inspire players.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with players, parents, and school staff.
- Ability to work well with other coaches and school staff.
- Coach team members individually and in groups, and demonstrate game techniques.
- Develop and implement game strategy and position assignments.
- Oversee the strength and conditioning programs during pre-season, during season, off-season and summer workouts for student athletes.
- Must have CDL or willingness to get one.
