Job Title: Financial Assistant (Part-Time)

About the Role:
Temple Beth El (TBE) is a vibrant and inclusive Conservative synagogue in Portland, Maine. We are deeply committed to fostering Jewish life, learning, and community.
We’re looking for a reliable and detail oriented Financial Assistant to support our day-to-day financial operations. This part-time position works closely with the Executive Director and our external accounting service. While you won’t be entering transactions in QuickBooks, you’ll be a key player in processing payments, maintaining documentation, and supporting members with account questions—helping ensure the financial health of our community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review, code, and submit invoices for payment (accounts payable)
- Process payments, scan checks, and submit deposit info to our accounting partner (accounts
receivable)
- Apply payments to member accounts in ShulCloud and maintain accurate spreadsheets
- Accept and process credit card payments
- Handle check requests and reimbursements
- Send monthly account statements to members
- Respond to member billing inquiries in a friendly, helpful manner
- Collaborate with staff and maintain organized financial documentation
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience with accounts payable/receivable processes
- Strong skills in Excel and Google Sheets
- Comfortable working with financial reports
- Organized, accurate, and dependable
- Clear communicator with a customer-service mindset
- Familiarity with ShulCloud (or similar systems) a plus
