  • Education and Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited Masters level program (or higher).

    • Minimum of three years clinical experience and two supervisory experience.
    • Background in management of a clinical facility is preferred.
    • Environmental / Working Conditions
    • Works inside under normal temperature conditions with adequate light, ventilation, and space. Works mostly with others, but may sometimes work alone. Must expect moderate noise from equipment, phones, and conversation. There are no unusual hazards. Due to direct patient care provided by the Supervisor, there is a potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens, but the risk is minimal. Exposure to various chemicals agents typically used in an office setting or hearing aid repair lab can be expected. Conditions of work may involve exposure to communicable diseases and on the job injuries.

    • Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
    • The Supervisor must display a professional attitude at all times, be thoughtful of others, neat and well groomed . The therapist will need to carry out close working relationships with many people including but not limited to the Director and Assistant Director of PM&R, other Audiologists, the Supervisor of Speech-Language Pathology, Speech Pathologists, support personnel, physicians, residents, medical students, Speech Pathology and Audiology students, and most importantly patients and their family members or caregivers. The Supervisor works closely with the physicians and nursing staff in the Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Clinic. Close interaction is necessary because the otolaryngologist often relies on the results and interpretation of the audiological tests to determine the need for medical management and corrective ear surgery. As a member of a multidisciplinary team which includes the Otolaryngologist, speech pathologist, psychologist, and neuroscientist, the Supervisor is responsible for coordination of services available from various departments in order to meet the needs of the hearing impaired individual.

    • Job Description
    • The Audiology Supervisor has the responsibility of providing audiological care to patients of the Hearing and Balance Center of University Medical Center. The Audiologist is expected to maintain the highest level of quality patient care at all times. The Supervisor will ensure that all patients are seen in a timely manner, are all evaluated professionally, and all receive follow-up care as required. The Supervisor will be expected to complete daily documentation and bill each patient for procedures performed. The Supervisor is expected to demonstrate clinical competency in all diagnostic and hearing aid services provided by the Hearing and Balance Center. The Supervisor will be expected to be involved in clinical education of graduate / undergraduate audiology students and supervise other clinical supervisors as needed. The Supervisor will assist in the overall direction, utilization, supervision, hiring, instruction, and evaluation of staff audiologists, support personnel, students and volunteers. The Supervisor will assist in long and short term budget planning for the HBC. The Supervisor will adhere to policies, procedures, and standards of practice as defined by and / or stated by the 1) American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2) Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 3) Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization Manual, 3) UMC Standard Policy and Procedure Manual, 5) PM&R Policy and Procedure Manual.

    • Required Licensures / Certificiations / Registrations
    • Eligibility for Texas audiology and hearing aid dispensing licensure.

    • Holds Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association.
    • Physical Capabilities
    • The Supervisor should have good physical stamina, be able to be on feet most of the day, and be fairly strong and energetic. Work frequently requires much walking, standing, carrying, talking and hearing, and listening. Lifting more than 50 pounds is occasionally required to reposition patients. Hours may be long and irregular and may include weekends.

    • Demonstrate economic use of time.
    • Know techniques of assisting and handling patients.
    • Must possess a high degree of accuracy in carrying out prescriptions, receiving and translating information, charting and reporting.
    • Demonstrate supervisory and management skills and have ability to delegate tasks as needed.
    • Understand Department / Facility policies / procedures and regulations.
    • Be aware of inter / intradepartmental communication.
