JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for day-to-day operations of childcare center including overseeing physical facility and staffing. Works with the Director on curriculum/ program development and maintaining compliance with DFS licensing requirements and quality standards. Acts as Director in the Directors absence. Supports parents by establishing good rapport, positive methods of communication, and mutual care practices for children. Trains new staff and supports current staff in fulfilling their responsibilities. Functions as Childcare Teacher/ Floater when needed. Performs duties according to the Scope of Service for Child Care. Adheres to and practices the SJH Corporate Compliance Program. Participates in Performance Improvement activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Site Staffing
Assists Director with screening, interviewing, and selecting staff.
Works with the Director to develop and implement orientation plan for new staff.
Schedules staff including absence requests, and changing assignments based on emergency need.
Approves payroll for site staff
- Provides direction, coaching, and feedback to staff on a daily basis. Routinely updates Director on staff performance.
- Assists Director with performance management including documentation, feedback, and annual and 90-day performance evaluations.
3. Leadership Responsibilities
Acts as a resource to staff members by training new staff and supporting current staff daily.
Checks weekly lesson plans and monthly calendar activities
Analyzes quality of program on a regular basis and provides feedback to Director
Performs special projects as assigned by the Director
- Provides feedback on the budget and differences between target and actual revenue and spending.
- Provides monthly statistics on child enrollment.
- Ensures accurate billing of families.
- Escalate billing concerns to Director when needed.
5. Facility
Ensures physical site/ facility complies with local, state, and federal laws
Inspects and assesses safety needs of the overall facility and grounds utilized by the Childcare staff and clients.
Evaluates and (with Director) approves purchases of equipment, materials, and supplies.
Submits work orders and communicates with Facilities staff as needed.
6. Parent Liaison
Establishes and maintains a communications link with parents
Communicates effectively and often with families especially in area of development, progress, and behavior. Responds appropriately to questions/inquiries for information.
Provides pertinent information to families, staff, and director
7. Childcare Teacher/ Worker/Floater
Fulfills all functions of a Childcare Worker or Teacher when needed.
Supports classroom teachers by assisting in all classroom management such as, preparing classrooms for meals, rest time, clean-up, and toiletry duties, as well as by preparing materials and executing a variety of planned activities.
Guides childrens behavior and disciplines according to SJH policy.
Assists with Center opening and closing procedures.
Supports fellow staff members by giving breaks and helping as needed.
Acts as lead teacher to staff assigned to their classrooms by assigning responsibilities for preparing meals, rest time, clean up, and toiletry duties.
Develops schedules and routines that are appropriate for the age group, planned for the entire day.
Ensures accuracy of paperwork for their classroom, including, but not limited to attendance, etc.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Education
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
Preferred: Associate degree or higher in Early Child Development or related field
Minimum Work Experience
Required: Two years of experience working in a management or supervisory role. Good communication, interpersonal, phone, and customer service skills
Preferred: Experience in a leadership or managerial role in a childcare center.
Required Licenses:
Current CPR Heartsaver AED required within 90 days of hire. Pyramid Model Consortium certificate required within 90 days of hire. Infant Toddler Credential required within the first year of hire.
FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS
Working Conditions: Childcare center, busy, noisy periods of time. Some stressful situations. Routine exposure to the outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Exposure to bodily fluids and bloodborne pathogens. Must be on-site at the SJH campus or other facilities to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 50 pounds, four to six hours of the day spent standing and walking. Intermittent sitting, often on the floor with children. Must be able to move from sitting to standing repeatedly throughout the day.
Direct Reports: no formal direct reports, provides daily supervision to Childcare staff
Reports to: Director of Childcare
Internal and External Contacts: Parents and families of children, other hospital and daycare staff, visitors, community agencies, vendors.
