The Postdoctoral Research Associate conducts research into their field of expertise; utilizes the skills and expertise granted to them by their education and experience to complete research projects in their field of expertise; writes and may contribute to research papers, articles, and publications; assists with the preparation and cleaning of worksite; may collaborate with other researchers and/or faculty; works on projects to determine molecular mechanisms involved in coronary and retinal arteriolar function in health and disease states, specifically in pig and mouse models; presents research in meetings/conferences; and performs day-to-day lab maintenance and record keeping.

Required Education
- Appropriate PhD in a related field
- PhD in a physiology discipline
- Experience with basic cell and molecular techniques
- Experience handling mouse models
- Experience with isolated (small arteries/arterioles) vessel studies
- Experience with animal surgery, tissue isolation

- Research: Under general supervision, conducts research in their field of expertise. Utilizes knowledge and skills granted to them by their education and expertise to complete research projects in their field of expertise. Assists with the preparation and cleaning of worksite. Analyzes research data and summarizes results. Writes and may contribute to research papers, articles, and publications. Independently performs experiments for assigned research projects that include isolated vessel studies, in vivo imaging for blood flow and cardiac function (ultrasound), real-time PCR, western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and cell culture studies. Assists with the preparation of research literature during manuscript and grant submissions and for presentation at scientific meetings. Surveys literature and research design. Analyzes and interprets data using scientific or statistical techniques.
- Basic Science Research Duties: Maintains the records of data collection. Conducts and monitors mouse colonies, basic surgical techniques and tissue harvest, maintaining the animal logs. Coordinates experiments/schedules with research staff, students and postdocs.
- Mentoring: May assist, mentor, and/or supervise student researchers and/or graduate students who are working on research related to the project.
- Presentations: Prepares presentation materials on research topics that may be presented to small and/or large groups. Actively participates in the preparation of required technical progress reports to research sponsors. Presents data at national and international scientific conferences.
- Laboratory Maintenance: Orders laboratory supplies and maintain lab inventory. Prepares laboratory reagents/solutions and maintain laboratory equipment. Coordinates day-to-day laboratory maintenance and maintain laboratory safety manuals. Performs general lab cleaning including benches and glassware.
- Professional Development: Attends weekly Medical Physiology Seminar Series and meet with guest lecturers.
