About The Division
The Revenue Accounting Division is committed to service excellence to the taxpayers of Texas. To support this aim, our mission is to accurately and efficiently process payments, disburse taxpayer refunds and local tax revenues, collect monies due the state through an effective advanced collections program, administer various taxes and fees, and properly reconcile tax revenue funds.
Work involves examining records, tax reports, and documentation submitted by taxpayers and their representatives. Using a mainframe computer system and/or personal computer to code or run programs, inquire on taxpayer accounts, update files and data, or produce reports. Duties are performed in a team-oriented environment and are subject to tight deadlines. May be assigned as an individual or as a team member for special projects, as needed. Performs assigned work using a computer, as needed, located at their workstation in an open environment. Prepares reports accurately using word processing or spreadsheets and proofreads same for accuracy as assigned. We will prepare you for the role by pairing you with experienced staff for on- the-job training.
The candidate should be detail oriented, able to work independently and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced processing environment. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing skills, computer proficiency, strong verbal, and written communication skills. The candidate must be able to work in a team environment, be adaptable to changing workplace demands and communicate effectively with internal and external customers and agency staff at all levels.
Agency standard work hours are Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm, 40 hours per week with occasional evening and weekend hours. Hours are subject to change based upon business need or division determination.

- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
- Two (2) years professional analytical or problem-solving experience.
- Must be a proficient user of a computer in a Windows environment.
- Must have good writing skills, including proper English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting or business-related field.
- One additional year of experience performing analytical or problem-solving experience work may substitute for thirty semester hours of educational requirement with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours (four years).

In this role you will:
- Independently s upports the section and/or division by performing research on taxpayer accounts, analyzing for proper disposition, and completing processing requirements accurately and efficiently within established turnaround times or deadlines.
- Maintain current knowledge of assigned functions, policies, and procedures related to job duties and responsibilities.
- Adheres to section procedures for tasks performed and prioritizes workload in accordance with those procedures.
- The assigned tasks should be completed within established turnaround times and meet applicable production standards.
- Examines taxpayer accounts to determine appropriate and complete action ensuring proper transactions are entered either on-line or via data entry to the tax processing systems.
- Prepares documentation to justify actions and monitors accounts for completion and subsequent action.
- Makes all necessary adjustments and follows up to ensure the taxpayer’s account reflects accurate information.
- Provides accurate and complete information, verbally and in writing when communicating with taxpayers, co-workers, and other agency personnel.
- Communicates in a clear and concise manner consistent with division and agency guidelines.
- Follows all division and section policies and procedures, and verbal and written directions and instructions of supervisor and/or trainer to ensure assignments are reviewed, prioritized, and completed accurately.
- Can be relied on to answer telephone and e-mails professionally within the prescribed time and update out-of-office messages on both as needed .
- Attends and actively participates in meetings providing input on division business needs and objectives.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Actively participates in agency and on-the-job training as scheduled and applies knowledge learned.
