GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Our mission at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is to serve, protect and advance the citizens and industries in the state with quality motor vehicle related services. We are a dynamic state agency dedicated to customer service, consumer protection and the success of motor vehicle-related industries.
Performs routine and complex administrative support and technical program assistance work in support of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. Work involves making special and routine/designated daily mail deliveries and pick-ups in the Austin and surrounding areas using state vehicles to include a box truck & forklift; lifting of heavy objects like supplies and equipment; participating directly in the activities of receiving, sorting, processing and delivery of high volumes of incoming and outgoing mail and freight; warehouse activities; and performing administrative support, research and customer service work. Work requires contact with internal and external customers, vendors and the public. Works under direct supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Collects, receives, sorts and distributes/delivers incoming, outgoing and interdepartmental mail to include flats, boxes and freight to and from all department divisions/programs in an accurate and timely manner according to established procedures.
Performs courier and mail related activities, rotating delivery routes for morning and afternoon mail routes using and operating various state vehicles (i.e., automobile, van, truck, box truck, forklift, golf cart, etc.).
Operates various state vehicles (i.e., automobile, van, truck, box truck, forklift, golf cart, etc.) Drives various routes in the metro area delivering and receiving supplies, mail, USPS carts and heavy palletized cargo.
Safely loads, unloads and stacks material by hand and/or using equipment (i.e., hand jacks, dollies, pallets, forklifts, state vehicles, box trucks, etc.); ensure vehicle passenger and cargo capacities are not exceeded, passengers use safety restraints and cargo is secured.
Receives and processes incoming and outgoing insured, certified, express and registered mail and parcels/freight.
Processes all classes of incoming and outgoing mail including private carriers, registered, insured, express and international mail ensuring proper postage and routing information.
Tracks mail and packages in tracking systems; logs mail and packages; and processes contracted carrier packages.
Operates and maintains postage equipment (i.e., postage meter machines); processes and meters mail; initiates and finalizes postage meter processes; and ensures postage meter and mailroom supplies remain stocked and always organized.
Assists with general mailroom & warehouse maintenance, plate destruction, and special mail handling and processing and warehouse functions.
Provides administrative support to include answering calls, responding to inquiries and providing internal customer support; locating proper addresses and information and making corrections for misdirected mail; recording data on appropriate forms, logging data or processing needed paperwork; maintaining files and records; entering and retrieving data on a computer; and ensuring security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information
Travels up to 50% of the time in the Austin area. May include some out-of-town travel. Travels by car (may include flying). May include overnight travel. May require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed.
Required to attend work regularly and adhere to approved work hours in accordance with department policies and procedures.

General mail distribution center practices and procedures
Mail and freight handling procedures and U.S. postal regulations.
Applicable laws, rules and regulations and records maintenance procedures
Research techniques
Record keeping and records management.
Operating computers using Microsoft Office Suite to include Outlook, Word, Excel and related software applications.
Operating a postage machine, postage scale, inserting machine and other mail related equipment
Performing manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials weighing up to 50 pounds
Performing work activities in accordance with TxDMV safety program requirements and guidance
Ability to:
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

PHYSICAL/WORKING CONDITIONS
Required to work Monday-Friday, 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week, on-site at Headquarters location in Austin, Texas.
Required to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 pounds and standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time.
Required to operate State vehicles (automobiles, vans, trucks, box trucks, forklifts, golf carts, etc.) traveling up to 50%, generally in the Austin and surrounding areas during routine working hours with occasional out-of-town and/or over-night travel.
Work is performed both inside and outside. When inside, employees are exposed to normal office temperatures and noise. When outside, employees may have to work and be exposed to seasonal inclement weather. Work typically involves standing, walking and working with office and mail machines for extended periods of time. Lifting, carrying and moving of equipment and materials that weigh up to 50 pounds is required and employees must have the ability to perform fieldwork that may sometimes involve walking moderate distances and exposure to potential hazards (heat, rain, insects, etc.)
Required to attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with department policies and procedures.
May be needed to perform duties in support of national emergencies and/or disasters to include holidays, evenings, and weekends on occasion.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
Graduation from high school or equivalent plus three (3) years of experience in mail, courier, warehouse and/or general office administration.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
College experience or technical training.
Experience using Microsoft Office (such as Outlook, Word and Excel).
Experience in governmental postal/mail operations.
Experience in using postage machines, postage scales, inserting machines and other mail related equipment.
Experience in operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and maneuvering palletized cargo in a warehouse setting.
REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSURE
A valid Class "C" driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct department business.
NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon and maintaining required license.
