GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Our mission at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is to serve, protect and advance the citizens and industries in the state with quality motor vehicle related services. We are a dynamic state agency dedicated to customer service, consumer protection and the success of motor vehicle-related industries.
Performs customer service work in the support of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV), Motor Carrier Division (MCD), Oversize/Overweight Permit Section. Work involves providing service to motor carriers by issuing oversize/overweight permits to ensure the safe and legal movement of oversize/overweight vehicles over the Texas state highway system via the TxPROS web application. Receives and reviews Oversize/Overweight permit applications via phone and internet and ensures compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Work involves extensive communication with external and internal customers via phone and email. Assists customers with TxPROS web application troubleshooting and problem solving; provides accurate information regarding oversize/overweight permit rules and regulations; and provides effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication that enhances customer service and promotes teamwork in order to support a high performing department. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. May be required to work hours other than 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. The position is primarily remote with the option to work on-site. Remote employees are required to report to the office as directed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Receives and reviews Oversize/Overweight permit applications, revision requests, renewal requests and necessary supporting documentation.
- Inputs Oversize/overweight permit applications, payments, and required technical data for permits into the TxPROS web application.
- Issues Oversize/Overweight permits, prepares and issues Route Survey forms, examines and approves axle loading diagrams, collects Oversize/Overweight permit fees, processes fees, and reimbursements when appropriate.
- Maintains records associated with Oversize/Overweight permits, fee payments, violations, bonds, engineering and route surveys, pilot/escort vehicle requirements.
- Assembles, examines and approves documents necessary for the issuance of Oversize/Overweight permits.
- Provides administrative and technical assistance related to the issuance of Oversize/Overweight permits and the use of the TxPROS web application to the general public, agency staff and government and elected officials.
- Answers questions, provides training, and performs outreach efforts related to the use of TxPROS and the issuance of Oversize/Overweight permits and related laws, rules policies and procedures.
- Provides interpretations and clear explanations of laws, rules, policies and procedures including Oversize/Overweight permit and the use of the TxPROS web application to internal and external customers.
- Approves or denies Oversize/Overweight permit applications based on laws, rules, policies and procedures. Works with applications to correct deficiencies in applications or loading diagrams with the goal of satisfying all existing permitting requirements.
- Provides and/or conducts outreach efforts including training to internal and external customers related to the issuance of Oversize/Overweight permits and the use of the TxPROS web application. Outreach and training efforts may be via web or in person.
- Travels up to 5% of the time. Travels by car (may include flying). May include overnight travel. May require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed.
- Required to attend work regularly and adhere to approved work hours in accordance with department policies and procedures.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Graduation from an accredited two-year college.
- Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
Experience
- Two (2) years' experience in customer service, permitting, or work related to the issuance of credentials for Motor Carriers.
- Experience requirements may be satisfied by full-time experience or the prorated part-time equivalent.
REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSURE
A valid Class "C" driver's license is required. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 90 days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct department business.
