Position Description

The Executive Director is responsible for the total operation and activities of The Arc of Augusta, Inc. The Executive Director is ultimately responsible for the daily management and oversight of the Community Engagement program and all programs, activities and events operated by The Arc of Augusta. This includes the planning, development and implementation of quality activities and events to meet the needs of the participants being served through our organization, overseeing the Program Manager and DSPs and ensuring that the policies and procedures are followed in accordance with Medicaid Waiver and Licensure requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities, Include But Are Not Limited to:

  • Establishing relationships within the community “at-large” in order to broaden public awareness and understanding of developmental disabilities, including:
  • Encouraging and providing for the establishment of programs and services in the community that meet the life-span needs of individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Providing and seeking referral services for individuals and families of those persons with developmental disabilities
  • Promote recognition of the rights of persons with developmental disabilities in the community.
  • Preparing operating budgets to the Executive Board of Directors to ensure the financial integrity of the organization
  • Establishing, maintaining and upgrading sound fiscal practices and controls
  • Developing and implementing strategies and programs for securing financial support from available community sources, including diverse funding agencies, businesses and industries
  • Supervising the planning, development and execution of quality programs and services to meet the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities in our service area
  • Completing and/or supervising the completion of assessments and individual service plans for all participants
  • Assisting the program manager in the development and implementation of new concepts and programs that fit within the framework of the long-range goals established by the participants, families and organization.
  • Supervising the program manager and DSPs to ensure compliance with all regulatory oversight and best practices
  • Assuring staff and program compliance of all DBHDS Licensure, DMAS Medicaid and Human Rights regulations
  • Developing, implementing and monitoring operational program policy and procedures
  • Overseeing participants’ records, and documentation practices consistent with current regulations while maintaining high confidentiality integrity
  • Ensuring all program personnel are knowledgeable and implementing processes to ensure HCBS responsibilities are met.
  • Providing back-up program support by ensuring client supervision, crisis management, and ISP support as needed
  • Overseeing all physical facilities and equipment to ensure proper maintenance and safe working/training conditions
  • Safeguarding the health, safety and personal dignity of proper parties and staff
  • Supervising and completing staff related duties, including;
  • Recruiting, evaluation and training staff, with the assistance of the program manager
  • Ensuring required staff training is completed
  • Facilitating designated staff meetings
  • Providing on-going consultation and review of written material
  • Sharing and communicating policy changes
  • Providing observations (ongoing, random and as needed) of program manager and DSPs
  • Subject to review by the Executive Board of Directors- determining salaries, hiring and terminating staff, in accordance with program and budget needs.
  • Conducting awareness campaigns, including:
  • Publishing a periodic newsletter for public distribution
  • Conducting an annual membership campaign
  • Participating in public events designed to convey understanding and stimulate interest in The Arc programs throughout the community.
  • Representing The Arc of Augusta with The Arc of Virginia and The Arc of the US, including:
  • Exchanging ideas and remaining informed of trends in the field
  • Attending, when possible, meetings of The Arc of Virginia and The Arc of the US
  • Complete other duties assigned by the Executive Board of Directors; either long term or more immediate duties as deemed important for the success of the organization.

  • Mandatory Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services or related field is required, with administrative experience in rehabilitation services or the equivalent
  • A working knowledge of governmental agencies, the legislative process, current and potential funding sources and laws regulating or affecting the organization
  • Must meet the minimum requirements for a Qualified Developmental Disabilities Professional (QDDP) as outlined in the Rules and Regulations manual from the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health, Developmental (DBHDS) Services
  • Must demonstrate ability to plan, implement and maintain service programs
  • Must demonstrate ability to work with a high degree of initiative under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to pass a Federal Criminal Background Check and a Child Abuse Registry Search
  • Access to a personal, reliable vehicle
  • A safe driving record, valid driver’s license and proof of insurance
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to act with integrity and professionalism
  • Ability to adapt and perform job duties in all environments
  • Ability to communicate in, read and write the English language
  • Ability to work assigned schedule

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $51,000.00 per year
