Overview
Diagnose and treat patients with language, speech or hearing difficulty. Identify treatment options, monitor progress and conduct testing.
Responsibilities
- Identify developmental speech and communication difficulties or disorders.
- Devise and implement treatment plans and protocols for patients.
- Document clients’ progress toward established treatment objectives.
- Develop speech and language skills for patients.
- Perform support duties such as preparing materials, keeping records, maintaining supplies, and scheduling activities.
- Collect and compile data to document clients’ performance and periodically assess program.
- Select or prepare speech instructional materials.
- Conduct client screenings or assessments of language, voice, fluency, articulation or hearing.
- Test or maintain equipment to ensure correct performance.
- Conduct training for hospital staff, family or community programs.
- Conduct speech and language research as needed.
- Perform other responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
Education:
- MA from an accredited Speech-Language Pathology Program.
Experience:
- May be a new graduate or have experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Able to demonstrate knowledge of speech, language, swallowing cognition and voice therapy as related to speech therapy.
- Demonstrate adequate clinical skills necessary to perform patient care.
Licenses, Certifications:
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC)
- NYS-license as Speech Pathologist
- ASHA Certified (American Speech-Hearing Association)
Physical Requirements:
- Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day. Position will be required to stoops, bends, lifts, carry items weighing up to 75 pounds.
